I just heard this while at the dealership picking up my new truck. It came DIRECTLY from the regional Toyota reps mouth.

for 2016 the Tacoma will enter its 3rd generation and the V6 power plant option will be the 3.5 - V6. the same motor used in several other Toyota vehicles. can anyone touch on this or has anyone else heard anything like this?

    I have heard similar rumors.
There has been much discussion about it on here also, and it makes sense that they have to bring out a next gen within the next year or two, so 2016 sounds about right.
Also, if they already have a 3.5 v6 that works and is being used in other vehicles, there is no need to develop something different for the Tacoma. Most manufacturers share engines between models.
So yeah, I would say it sounds legit. (although there have been many stories going around)

Hope it's true! But with so much "word of mouth" slushing around since people's confident predictions of the 2011 3rd Gen model, I don't even know if I'll believe pictures now. I'll just wait till I see one at a dealership or on the road. Even then I'll probably still be skeptical.

I can not remember a time in recent history that an auto manufacturer has had so little information leak out about a replacement model vehicle. I mean there is NOTHING proof positive about what the next Gen' is actually going to be. I scour the web every few weeks looking for info and what do I see mostly, badly translated articles from other countries with errors up the ying yang like 4.0l 4cyl & 5.7l 6cyl non sense. Besides the suspense which is slowly killing me, I really would like to know what is next(like everyone else). I'll be in the market for a new truck within 1.5 years and I'd like to stay with Toyota provided they made some changes in directions that my current Taco needs like better interior materials for example.

Well... Ressler has always been decently reliable in terms of information. However, no one really knows anything at this point. Literally ANYTHING

That website looks like all the high school English papers I wrote: full of made-up BS. "The interior will be updated. The exterior will be completely redesigned. The truck will be ... Let's see ... Different." Yeah, who'd have guessed. Nothing concrete at all. And let's incorporate some rumor: "maybe a diesel engine."

They don't know anything, and they haven't put anything new on that website since they started it in 2013 except updating the model year of the "all-new model" from 2015 to 2016. And if 2016 doesn't happen they'll just change it to 2017. With the same nonsense "inside info."
