That sticker there under the hoot stating how many lbs it takes, is a blatant lie by Toyota with the sole intention of making drivers uncomfortable. The solution is to at a MINIMUM double the recommended "full" level.

Eh..my wife's 2016 CX3 has a shitty condenser and the refrigerant leaks out. It's warrantied but there are no units left in the US. No she has to wait 3 weeks for the dealer to get the part from Japan..in the middle of Summer. So we are at the dealer every 2 days getting it recharged until the part comes in.

    Cool story, I know.

I would just roll the window down and grin and bare it. Grandpa never had a/c in his cars back in the day.

I still have 2 cases of R12 amd my homemade vacuum pump made from a fridge compressor. I may need it one day to repair the OEM AC on my 57 Chevy

I came to say this. R-1234yf also has some safety risks

Finished up that thought for you.

Hard to believe it's been 24 years with R134a already. It hasn't been that long since I finished clearing out all my R12 supplies/tools and collecting some R134a gear.

Of course my '04 and '13 still use that, so I'm good. But yet another reason, along with smart keys and dipstick-less transmissions that I'm reluctant to update. I guess it's time to get the '04 painted. It only has 120k on it, so why not? :D

    Reserected from the dead.
Risks of R-1234 is it is slightly flammable. Not rally a big risk, but when it burns it turns into a deadly gas.

I'm actually surprised this stuff made it thru DOT testing.

Edit: Bill beat me posting the need to knows.

As are way too many children today, because the interwebz alternative health sites tell folks vaccines cause autism.

I don't know what you plan to 'bare' but I don't think I could 'bear' to watch.

Please. Keep the windows up. And tinted too. :D

R-1234yf is very close to the same properties as R134a. I know a master tech at a Mercedes dealer. M-B has R-1234yf in a few of there vehicles a few years back and M-B told them to remove it since it was flammable. They installed flushed the system several times to remove the oil, replaced the dryer added 134a with compatible oil sent the customer on the road and asked them to return in a few months and redid the process all over again to make sure all the old oil was out. As of today there are no issues. R-1234yf sales for $100 a small can where 134a sales for $4. Unfortunately the EPA won't let shops do this, but you can. Just don't get caught by the EPA cops.
