2016 TACOMA AUTO VS MANUAL

I bought a black TRD Sport double cab with the manual and never looked back. I have over 5,000 mi now and my only complaint is a wind noise at times coming from the front passenger door rear area, I think. I added a Black Horse bull bar, TRD CAI, stainless steel exhaust tip, and a bug shield. Love the truck. It pulls great with the manual in all 6 gears. I just don't understand why they use 430 gears in the rear end.

WTF? The 4.3 is great! Without it you would never get into 5th gear, you would have a 4 speed MT.

I have had a MT in every vehicle I've owned since 1974. I enjoy the control of a manual but after having an automatic in my 2010, I will never go back to a MT again. If I buy a sports car again maybe I'll get a MT. Everything else will be a AT. One clutch job and the negates the increased cost of the AT. Modern ATs get better mileage and IMO are easier on the engine. In a MT there is a tendency sometimes to lug it down and put extra strain on rings and bearings. Towing heavy payloads kills a clutch but an AT doesn't think twice about it. As far as the 2016 trucks shifting all the time, what do you expect from a many geared transmission? Go drive a Ram truck with an 8-speed or a Ford F150 with a 10-speed and you'll know what I mean. It is designed to pick the gear that balances fuel economy with torque needed and with many to chose from it's going to shift around. This isn't the day of a 3 speed cruise-o-matic slush-box anymore. I wish the Tacoma had a 8/10-speed instead. If you want it to stay in the same gear without shifting then maybe look at something with a POS CVT transmission. Those are like driving a tote-goat with a centrifugal clutch.

I bought a '17 Sport MT about a month ago. Not one complaint with how it drives. I love rowing my own gears! The truck feels plenty powerful at all time to me.

I've got a DCSB TRD OR M/T on order and should be here any day. I've currently got an Outback wtih CVT I'm giddy to be back in a M/T again.
