You're a funny man when you draw stupid conclusions....

Read it again, 75,000 sold and approximately 20 reported here. You have more factual information or are you extrapolating based on members here, failures reported and assume that result grows linear as total expands?

I may be wrong, but it seems as if there were more than 20 guys alone on this site with CPS failures. Hard to tell how many others outside of here but obviously enough for them to redesign it.

Several hundred third gen posters here... Maybe 20 to 30 have failed CPS. Do the math on that and extrapolate.

Last i checked "a few" does not come close to 20 or 30

They looked into it, no guarantee it's a redesign. Could just be a supplier with tighter controls.

You could be correct too, it was obviously an issue that they addressed. It had to get their attention though, so l would assume the failure rate was high enough to trigger an investigation.

    You're assuming too much...

What constitutes a few when you're talking 75000. What's a failure rate to warrant replacing 75k? Likely it will be significantly more than 20 or 30.

Because simple logic. If 300 to 400 people post here with failures and 180 thousand trucks sold you can safely assume the failure rate is well-outside the realm of just Tacoma World. Holy shit it isn't rocket science J.

But not enough to trigger massive replacement. So how many suppliers make the part, don't know.

If it's one does it affect all or was it just parts created during a certain window, don't know, could be 1 in 10, 1 in 100, 1 in 1000, could be just the parts made during Dec, we just don't know and probably no way to distinguish.

Are the lots confined to one point of assembly or delivered to both factories, don't know, probably both.

Like I said before if there is a big wave of failures you might see a recall, but for now there isn't so you can either replace or get a spare on your own dime or get a free one if it fails.

That's how it works with the percentage of failures now.

Youre misunderstanding me by trying to be right.

I'm sure there's more failures than what's posted here but it hasn't been enough to generate a recall or a TSB. Not denying the part can be substandard especially in a hot environment but until there's a rash of failures to generate either a recall or TSB, Toyota will continue ue to just replace as they fail. Demanding action on a part that hasn't failed in an individual instance will not get you anything.

So you have the three options I'd said again and again, live with it, replace it on your own dime, get it replaced for free like any other part if it fails on warranty.

I am sure they have things in place that calculate the best way to address the issue. As far as assembly plants, l think both places as the engines are probably delivered fully dressed ready to install.

All i know is that the problem is serious nuff not to take the chance of failure.
And its not so much the issue of getting stranded as if you let it sit, probabilities are good that it can start again and run for a little while.
But if it fails without a chance to get into the shoulder (like on a bridge or something) your A$$ is grass.

You can save the receit for the part until the chit hits the fan with law suits and file for reinburstment.
But that's just me, to each his own.

Even so, It's stlll the best truck on the market, and hey, we nailed it or found the fix right here on TW before the dealers had a clue right?? Hehe!!

    Cheers!

I'm sure there are now but I'm not holding my breath to see a massive recall.

I have a spare in my toolbox because my truck was built Feb 16.

I also have a spare CPS for my Mazda.

lol that's why I have to stay away from the third gen section. :D

    Actual tech warning:

It is very likely, if not a certainty, that the CPS comes from a couple different manufacturers. One of them probably had a batch of questionable quality, I.E. meets Toyota's QC on the line but is experiencing a few failures in the field. Toyota probably recognizes this and knows the failure rate is low. If it is prevalent enough they would issue a TSB for it to assist dealers in diagnosis. No way they would hide a widespread known issue after the unintended acceleration debacle and GM's ignition switch lawsuits.

I think it is unlikely they have many suppliers, they follow Kaizen and Just In Time. Having several suppliers increases the odds for quality problems.
