Oh boy, so if I hit 6000rpm, I can haul ass? Typical high revving car engine, but let them salivate nonetheless, cuzz TOYOTA!

Also note the worst the engine does/measures in output is 85.9% of max torque at 2250 RPM (201 ft lbs of 234 ft lbs). Not sure how that compares (percentage-wise) to any other engines....

Yeah the gen 3 isn't a fire-breather but coming from my gen 1 that seems like a lot of pull.

I'd be interested in hearing your explanation. I do know the ramp rate (acceleration rate) that you set on the dyno has an effect because some of the torque that you would have measured goes into accelerating the drivetrain, but that's why you set a reasonably low rate. Even steady-state load testing has drivetrain losses (bearing friction, gears, CV joint phasing, etc..)

    2015 F150 5.0L torque peak - 4000 - 4500rpm - 340lb/ft (wheel)
    2250rpm = approx 290lb/ft = 85% of peak.

Ran the same numbers for the Mustang engine - 80% at 2250 - mainly because peak torque is higher than the F150. They were both about 290lb/ft at 2250.

Different tests, but the Toyota is in the ballpark with the 5.0L Ford, which is a very good engine.

    Ford 5.0 - 58lb/ft per liter at 2250
    Toyota 3.5L - 65lb/ft per liter at 2250

Seems like a perfectly capable motor for a mid-size truck. For guys like me who tow 3500 lbs 5x a year I dont see the problem.

Not bad at all. nice job. Curious what it is for the GMC/Chevy Duramax Diesel. (oh god, better grab popcorn and a flame suit!).

The Tacoma may have a minivan motor, but the Colorado has a minivan motor and minivan offroad prowess. They can keep the HP crown. Toyota has never cared about being spec king in anything other than the Prius.

What most people don't realize is that HP is meaningless without good & smooth torque delivery. The torque curve on the dyno chart is what really matters not horsepower calculations.

Well it really doesn't sound to impressive that's for sure, was someone revving a 1.8 corolla in the background? I hope so

Well the Colorado has 3 more torques than the Tacoma. The Frontier has some like 280 lb ft.

Ask and you shall receive! Oh and I ran it in 4th gear because it's 1:1 and is typically the gear we run all vehicles in on this dyno.

No, based on the chart the truck has good torque measurements, but the delivery over the power band looks inconsistent. Delivery of torque is more important the max torque output.

Look at this chart from one of my motorcycles.. the red line represents the stock output, the blue is the result of remapping of fuel and drive by wire systems. The red line dips just after 4k rpms, then starts to spike after 5k rpms. When your leaned over a corner doing 80+mph on a tire contact patch the size of a credit card, the last thing you want is that dip in torque. The dip will upset your suspension and make the bike rock, this also applies to cars. In the blue line, we smoothed out that dip and made a more consistent torque curve, this allows you to have a predictable throttle allowing you to control weight transfer without brakes.

Nice! Is it not possible to see it starting from 0-500 rpm? Curious as to how the torque is introduced.

ok, that does make sense. Did you like what you saw on the Tacom's dyno charts?
