The D4S should not cause a dip anywhere in a torque curve.

At or near full throttle, D4S does NOT use port injection at any rpm.

The dip is where it transitions for port and direct to direct injection only.

No. At full throttle, port injection is NOT used at any rpm as per the engine spec pdf.

Maybe it is a red herring, but the 2GR-FKS is not the only D4-S equipped engine that has a mid-range torque dip: FA-20 & 4U-GSE, 2GR-FSE...

I don't know what causes the dip.

Everyone says its d4s transition when toyota says there is no transition (near full throttle).

From what Ive read, it only says light and med engine load for port injection and DI only for high engine load. Throttle position and engine load are two different things. Traditionally speaking, engine load refers to RPM's.

Can you please site where it says that at full throttle position PI is not used?

From everything I've read on the D4S injection, the torque dip is from the transition to DI.

@Tharris242 For what I'm assuming is the .pdf you are referring too:

Says nothing about throttle position. The dip is from the transition from sequential port/direct injection to direct injection.

C'mon... full throttle=high load. It says right there... high load = DI only. The dyno is max load; so, DI only - no transition.

Yes, everything I have read here says dip is transition; but, that appears to be speculation based misunderstanding.

Throttle position and engine load are two different things. The only time DI would be used exclusively in that graph is if you are hauling/towing a heavy load. I don't think a dyno is considered a "heavy load"

Dyno is load based. It uses brakes to apply load to the vehicle being tested. It's not like jacking up the rear end and stomping the throttle

Yes, I've been on a dyno before. Its not that high; def not what I would consider a "heavy engine load"

Depends on the Dyno and the operator. We load my car down as hard as making a 1/4 mile pass. That's 100% of the load it'll ever see
