Dude, I'd be furious to have bought a brand new vehicle and to have it stall out like that. Then to have toyota say there isn't a fix. It's like being kicked in the left nut, then being kicked in the right nut.

OP got lucky, but it could have easily occurred going 70mph or in a remote location. Not just that but the temperatures down here in Texas have been in the 100s, which sucks even more having a vehicle stall.

That sucks that it happened OP. Hope you get your truck back quick! My dad used to work right there(NW corner of gatalyn and 75), I try not to go towards dallas and get stuck in that kind of traffic. Sadly all the good doctors seem to be south of there so I have to head that way at least a couple times a year.

Glad you're getting it worked out OP - keep us posted. Who knows if the CKPs many of us have bought / installed resolve the issue long-term, but I'm now close to 3,000mi since replacement and truck performance is still good with MPGs maintaining steady. That said, it wasn't until about 7-8k that I started having the specific hard idle, roughness appear that the replacement resolved. My MPGs were always crap from day one though in comparison to what they've been since replacement.

I still predict this is impacting a LOT of trucks to varying levels of severity and we have to remember that even the recall states that it was excessive coating on the crankshaft rotor causing the problem so the long-term fix could well be much more involved than a simple sensor replacement... Meanwhile folks could be slowly destroying their power/drivetrains which could cost Toyota a fortune... unless they can hold together for 60,001 miles ;)

That's the reason for the recall, OP even stated his VIN is affected by it being on the list.

Hopefully the dealership realizes this, installs the updated CPS and the OP is on his way.

    Nope

Instead of speculating with no real information like you usually do read about the likely cause in the CPS recall bulletin. From what I understand in the bulletin it appears to be a process problem not an engineering problem.

If I saw that MIL and they just replaced the sensor, maybe I'm being absurd but when I got my truck back I'd be immediately taking it to a non-Toyota-affiliated shop with some mechanics who know the trucks to do a REAL inspection.

Hard to determine what cascading faults will be thrown depending on how the CPS failed and how long the OP continued to drive it until it ultimately failed causing the stall. I've worked with electronic systems for decades and erratic BITE codes can send you down the rabbit hole in diagnostics.

If the single part is replaced and all associated codes are cleared by the single part then there's nothing to worry about.

In that case you're being hypersensitive to the issue.

Agree/all. So why not just say that in the first place instead of appearing like a typical 2nd Gen troll. If that was not your intent,

Did they assess what was wrong with your truck?

Please tell me you didn't take it to Toyota of Richardson...

You got lucky and got a decent loaner!! I posted on a diff. thread here for this same issue. My truck died on the interstate a few weeks back & left me stranded waiting for a tow. Dealer told me it was due to this CPS issue, but at the time there was no part/fix issued. I got put into a Corolla and told my truck was going to have to sit until Toyota released the part/fix, no one could tell me how long it would take. I was pissed! Was as nice as possible to the service manager at the time, but couldn't believe what they were telling me until I called Toyota corporate. Was basically told by Toyota Corp. that I'd just have to wait it out, the best they could do is improve the loaner (which still hasn't happened).

Now that they have released the fix and a new (?) part for this, I'm hoping to have my truck back soon. Not sure if I should be concerned about any other mechanical issues that could have been caused by the rough and slow death at interstate speeds...

Call Toyota Corporate (800-331-4331) and grease the wheels a bit. They will get in touch with your dealership and at least try to ensure that you are taken care of. I honestly feel like Toyota should be doing a little more for those of us that had this fail on the road, especially on the highway/interstate! Toyota was certainly aware of this issue before this happened to either of us, and failed to notify anyone. They had the VIN numbers of the vehicles effected. To me, this is unacceptable! My entire family was in the truck when it started loosing it's composure at about 70 mph on I95.

Sorry to hear that, please keep us updated.

So I'm assuming it is NOT related to the crankshaft position sensor?

Got my Taco today, drives and sounds great.
    CPS was the problem.
    Codes were generated by default.
The experience was no fun, but they covered towing and rental truck for 1 week.
