You could literally make this video with any Toyota 2007-current with a 6 speed auto. They all do this, some perhaps worse than others. Hard to believe Toyota is "not aware". More likely they've accepted it as a design flaw they're willing to live with.

Wow DanielTaco. I didn't know this problem was so widespread. I am really surprised at this. I am new to the Tacoma world, but this is very sad.

I am looking through it now Daniel. What was the eventual cause of the flair? What was Toyota's solution?

Now obviously the 6 speed in the new Tacoma is different than what's in a Camry, but how different? Who knows, it's certainly plausible they share a great deal of components since they seem to have the exact same "problems". Or is it just the way they are programmed?

Is it annoying, yes. Do I believe it will fail due to this condition, well Toyota is certainly banking on that not being the case, otherwise why in the hell would they still be having this issue so many years later, when they clearly acknowledged it from the beginning.

You can read this tsb yourself, i'm not so sure how well the reprogramming ended up working. Must not have done much if even newer ones still have the same characteristic.

Have you checked out your rear diff for howling? There's a thread here on that...

Very interesting Daniel. So, it makes me wonder, does the AC60F (in our Tacoma's) have a quality issue, that they are trying to bandaid with the reflash???? I noticed after the TSB, that my transmission tries to short shift from 3rd-4th gear. This would seemingly attempt to stop the flair. However, there shouldn't be a flair to begin with.

I haven't had the issue yet. I have 315 miles on the truck now. When does it start howling? What is the cause?

I agree with you it shouldn't be there to begin with, but at this point I'm willing to bet Toyota will just call it a "normal characteristic" or say it's "operating as designed". They invested a ton in these U series transmissions, and to fix this issue and others, I'm guessing would require a major redesign they are not willing to pay for.

To replicate feather throttle on flat or slight decline at 55 to 65mph.

You have made your point. It isn't going to dissuade us from making it an issue with Toyota but thank you.

I will check for the howling. Does anyone know what the root cause was?

I don't care one way or another, but they probably have 10 million or so of these trannys on the road doing this. It would take a Federal agency intervening to get Toyota to spend billions of dollars to fix something that's not a safety issue. Good luck.

I think Toyota will stand behind the issues on a case by case basis, but it will take a little persuasion and not backing down.

Maybe not, but with all of the other issues some of us have been experiencing this is just another straw on the proverbial camel's back.

I'm eagerly awaiting the 2018 Ranger or may go to a full size in 2 or 3 years but as tempting as it is to go dump this thing for a 2017 Silverado I'm not about to take a $5k or $6k loss on trade right now. Until then I'm going to ride this bitch out for at least 2 to 3 years and give Toyota everything I can while doing so.

If Toyota can fix my rear differential issues, I'll be much happier. The transmission slipping, my rear leafs squeaking like a rusty bed, and the vibrations in the driveline I can live with, but I will never be 100% happy with either...so I'll continue, like I said, to push Toyota to acknowledge and fix these issues wherever possible. If it fixes it down the road, future buyers can thank guys like me for holding Toyota accountable to a little bit better standard than they seem to have lowered themselves to in Quality Control....

Yeah the fanboys don't want to hear it but that's just the way it is going to be.
