Does anyone know if the 2016 and 2017 Double Cab 6' bed are the same? I want one of these covers but they don't have the 2017 listed on their website.

I had the G4 Elite on a 2008 2nd Gen and after adjusting the latches and seals it was waterproof and problem free for 5 years.

Just got word from Kyle Way at Fold-A-Cover:

    Phillip,
    Thank you for contacting Fold-a-Cover.

Toyota did not change the truck bed for 2017. There are no issues with fitting the cover on that truck.

    Kind Regards,

    Kyle Way

I had a 2nd Gen and I loved this bed cover.
On the 2nd Gen you mounted the WindRails to the tops of the left and right side of the bed with double sided sticky tape. One shot to line it up, remove the tape, and hope everything stayed lined up while removing the tape backing.

The change to the third Gen windrails is the anchors that mount to the bed rails. One pair in front and one pair at the back. This is fully adjustable.

I've had mine for a few months and I really like it. From my experience, none of them are completely water tight.
The little bit that it does leak is not an issue.

I see from the pictures that the rubber on the end of your cover fold under. It will be almost 100% waterproof if you train them fold outwards and then fill in the gaps with soft foam. Here is a picture of the front seal on mine... I have not added the single sided sticky foam tape to seal the gaps yet.

I could give that a shot.
Hopefully it will stay warm enough for the seals to cooperate.

None yet really. Fold-a-cover G4 Elite tonneau cover. Will get new tires...
Can you close the close the tailgate while the G4 Elite is closed? Or do you have to lift the cover, then close the tailgate, then close the cover again?

I seem to remember I read somewhere that you have to lift the cover first , then close the tailgate, which is a bummer for me as I would like to keep the cover locked and be able to operate the tailgate independently. I too am investigating the issue and would like to know more. Trying to decide between this and a retractable cover.

I emailed with Fold-a-cover and they confirmed u have to close tailgate with cover open in order for it to properly seal. You can open/close the tailgate with the OEM tonneau cover. Not sure which cover I'm going ton get yet. The G4 is still my first choice.

Anyone recall roughly what the weight of the G4 Elite was shipped? IE in package? Less than 100lbs?

I am new here (again) and I would like to know if the lock system on the tailgate is the same on the 2016 and the 2017, the one I am getting. I am going to buy a folding cover but I want to be able to lock the tailgate. I had a 2006 Tacoma and I was able to find a lock for it.
    Thanks, John

I've had my G4 Elite for about 6 months now, don't recall how much the shipping weight was but I'm sure it was under 100 lbs. I think the cover by itself weighs around 40lbs. EDIT: Just checked the fedex shipping document and it listed the weight at 49 lbs.

I can also confirm that the rear cover has to be lifted before closing the tailgate, there's a rubber gasket on the end of the rear cover that rest on top of the tailgate to stop water from getting in. If you try to close the tailgate with the cover closed the gasket will not sit properly on the tailgate. Not a big deal to me.

Awesome! Thanks man. Just placed order for my G4 Elite. Now to figure out if I install it myself or not...

You can install it yourself but it makes it much easier if you have someone to help. My neighbor gave me hand putting it on and it only cost me a $25 pep boys gift card.

I did it myself, not too bad. The install video does make it look easier than it is, it does take some time to get everything lined up and adjusted correctly.

I installed the G4 Elite myself a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't too difficult, but it took me a while to do (I'm detail oriented and I don't have any experience with similar stuff). I can't give a full review on it yet because I've not really used it since installing it, other than I like the appearance of it. I've not needed to open/close it much yet and its been steady snow and rain where I live.

I was considering the Bakflip but was worried about leak issues and i didn't like the ideas of the gutters (prefer to try to stop the water before it gets in). And I think G4 Elite way more secure. Looks to easy to break into Bakflip and other similar styles with just a coat hanger slipped under the back.

I'll be watching to see how leaky it is (rains a lot where I live). I've not installed any of the seals that it comes with yet but I definitely will. Also want to see if the locks freeze up when it gets cold.
