I just recently purchase a 2016 TRD Sport Tacoma and already damaged my front bumper. I was looking into getting a off-road bumper to replace it but wanted to hear your suggestions. Does anyone know where I could get an off-road bumper or the original bumper?

I know sosoffroad has built one already. Check them out they don't have it on their website them but you can contact them and I'm sure they can work something out

I keep asking myself what will be the impact of modifying front bumpers in the future when pedestrian new regulation takes in effect next year I think. The Tacoma 2016 front bumper was designed to meet these requirements. Will the new regulation prohibit us to replace the original part with an off-road solution. Will we have to carry our truck on a flat bed up to the trails? Hopefully not, but if manufacturer are in the obligation to comply, this will probably affect aftermarket also.

    Any idea on this?

Were not allowed to Modify our headlights to projectors. But we do. Can we get a ticket yes but I have yet to see one person post that they got a ticket for modifying their headlights. The only time I would be concerned is if you did run someone over and they had a good attorney that new you had a illegal bumper. Then the lawyer could say that because you had an illegal bumper it caused his clinet to run out infront of you. something stupid like that they are slick talkers I tell ya.

Definitely not an expert, but.... Those regulations are most likely intended for the manufacture. Just like the EPA stuff, what you can do to the vehicle once you own it and still want it to be road legal will probably vary depending on the individual state or county regulations.

I saw many times on this forum owners living in Utah having to pass inspections to get their modified vehicule plated. I guess they could have some problems with this regulation.

IN N.A. with three Countries involved and say 49 States in the US (Not counting Hawaii) and how many in Mexico I am not sure how you draw up regulations and still expect to entertain tourists and travelers. Do you only restrict residents of your jurisdiction?

I believe it's usually based on where the vehicle is registered. If you just vacation in another area you're only held to the laws of where you came from, but if you move and try to register you'll then need to be compliant with the local regulations.

Point of order: "the EPA stuff" is federally regulated regardless of who messes with it and when. At no point is it ever legal to alter EPA required emissions controls to take a vehicle out of compliance on a vehicle that sees highway use. Now there aren't exactly roving black ops EPA strike teams taking down coal rollers left and right and in most states no one will ever know or care. Vehicles sold before regulations are in place get a pass obviously and the same should apply to pedestrian safety requirements, but I can't speak to that with any specific knowledge.
