I had a guy take out the whole passenger side of my 2010 Kia Soul, both doors, fender, B pillar, etc. Total of the repairs was around $10K. Carfax listed it as minor damage.

    Take the money.

    Don't repair the truck.

Enjoy the money. Enjoy using the truck w/o worrying about the first flaw. It's over.

Thanks man, this is exactly the reason why I posted here.

Brah. It adds at least 50 hp to the truck.

Yeah their banking is great, but you shouldn't trust that USAA will always be cheaper/better, in my case, Geico's military discount was much better than what USAA offered me. Also since i'm not at fault I have to deal with the other party's insurance which is where the problems lies...

I thought Carfax was so useful when I was looking at used/CPO'd cars...but now after looking into (and experiencing) all of this, I'm just starting to realize how unreliable it can be...

I hear you, however cheaper isn't always better. The beauty of USAA is they deal with the other insurance company for you. GEICO is good too.

I've found that either or both the insurance company and/or the body shop can report the wreck to Carfax. Most insurance companies stopped, because people started wanting a check for diminished value. Don't get it repaired at a car dealership. Half of them use ADP for their software, and they sell that info to Carfax for a profit. I used to sell for ADP. You will probably be safe if you get it repaired at an independent repair shop. Either way, I would go back to the insurance company and file a diminished value claim. Usually a wreck drops the value 10-20% of the value of the truck. Probably closer to 10% for a Tacoma, since it's not a high end luxury car.

Take your truck to a Toyota certified collision center and have it fixed.
Who cares what's reported to who, there isn't enough damage to compromise it being a certified used Toyota if you try to trade it in, regardless of it being on a carfax
And if anyone like an independent buyer ever questions the damage, show them your paperwork of what the damage was and that it was repaired at a Toyota certified Collision center.

Second this, I would want to know you took care of any issues on the truck, not just major things.
