Vehicle drives fine as long as I drive like my grandmother on the road, As soon as I want to go faster to pass someone on the highway or to get on the interstate the motor will go straight into limp mode and I would have to pull over and turn off the truck and start it back up again. After that the truck will run just fine as long as I drive like a normal person. lol. I have a code reader and at first it read that I had a misfire on the cylinder 5, I did some research and everything I could find said that it was most likely the crankshaft sensor. I ended up replacing all three coil pack's on cylinder 1,3,5. I replaced all of my spark plugs. I cleaned all of my injectors(watched a video on youtube about that one). After replacing all of that I figured it was fixed but no, Code is now reading only cylinder 3 as a misfire, saw this post and took off the intake pelleum and to my surprise mine too is broken.

Interesting... Kinda how I explained it to my father in law. When I drive normal, it's fine. When I drive like an asshole, it fucks up LOL...

How difficult was it for you to take off that plenum and what would you consider your level of expertise?

I'm an electrician by trade, I dabble in mechanical work a lot. This isn't too hard to do, took me like 20 minutes to take it off. Just remember too unplug the little harness in the back before you take off the pelleum.

Your post helped a lot and gave me the motivation to just dig in…. Removal wasn’t hard at all IMO.

Did you end up replacing the whole unit or just driving without the flap?

Im contemplating driving it like this for a while…

That's what I plan to do if the plenum actuator door snaps again on my truck; after it's out of extended warranty. I am very interested to see how long it lasts with the new Plenum assembly.

I already ordered the new part, not too sure if driving without it will change the gas mileage or ramp up the motor at idle. Surely there was an engineering plan for the flap to be there specifically. If not and your truck runs good without the flap please let me know, I’m curious about the function of a secondary flap implemented.

how much did they stick you for the new part ? Just asking for a friend :anonymous: truly asking because I have the entire plenum with working ACIS sitting in a box in my garage. It went to sleep when I installed the SC - which does not use the faulty part or plenum. Thinking of selling it all as it is only taking up space. TIA.

I removed mine and didn't notice any change in fuel mileage or effects on the motor.

No if's about it. It's a design defect just like the third brake light seal, just a lot worse.
And a previous poster said a dealer wanted $600 for just diagnostics. Total bs.
The other design defect is the coolant crossover pipe cracking they want $1600 to replace.
What about the timing cover seal that requires engine removal ?

I expect better from Toyota. Fortunately I have not had these issues.

Trying to submit to Toyota... Going to: Vehicles ---> Warranty and Repairs

This is where it looks like it is going to a local dealership? I'd like it to go to Corporate...
