Don't think this is a hijack; and that happens all the time anyway. Why does the language matter? Looks like he may have this issue.

I have a 2017 6 cyl with 151k miles. I had misfires in cylinder 1 only and was in limp mode. I took it somewhere and they said they couldn’t see anything but to bring it back if anything came up. The truck seemed to be running ok for a couple weeks but then I had more misfires but in 1, 3, 5, as well as codes for rough idle and P030000, P030027. I tried replacing coils because I needed to be able to go to work, was getting kind of desperate. That didn’t work. Brought it back to my shop and they found the stupid plastic flap broke off…72DA1724-C347-4A80-91DB-324CAEF111A5.jpg

Holy cow.....this is exactly what my 2017 TRD Pro just did to me today. Getting on the highway, I stepped on it and it seemed to start missing above 4 to 5k rpms. Then it jumped into limp mode and I had to pull over. Turned it off, and when I restarted it, it was fine! It didn't even keep a CEL on. It did it a second time, and then it kept a code, PO303 Cylinder 3 misfire. I swapped #1 and #3 coils, and it did it again..... still PO303 Cylinder 3 misfire. But once I turned it off, and restarted it, it ran smooth as glass and drove fine as long as I didn't get into the throttle too hard.

I seriously wonder if this is what's going on with my truck. This is the second time I've heard about this being an issue.

    To lazy to list
For those with this issue it will float across the entire passenger side of the motor. I had cylinder 1, 3, and 5 all randomly but never at the same time be blocked and cause misfires. Since the repair the truck aslo starts weird when cold and sometimes struggles till it revs itself. I don't know if the flap failing fucked up other electronics either. 2018 TRDOR with 75k when the failure happened.inbound4354289846062837324.jpg inbound1365029833730003773.jpg inbound4354289846062837324.jpg inbound1365029833730003773.jpg

Chalk me up as another +1 with this issue.

Going to get onto the highway, I stepped on it to get on the highway, and after 4 grand, it started to miss a bit, then instantly went into limp mode. Pulled over, turned it off.

When I restarted it it was fine....which was odd....it then drove perfectly normal....until I stepped on the gas and it revved up high again

It started missing and went into limp mode....this time throwing a CEL for PO303, cylinder 3 misfire.

I swapped #1 and #3 coil packs, and then drove it again.

After a bit, it did it again, went into limp mode and threw a PO303 cylinder 3 misfire.

Obviously that eliminated the possibility it was the coil. I remembered a friend of mine had a very similar issue with his Tacoma. His did what mine is did, ran fine at lower rpms, and broke up above 4k..went into limp mode.

He told me to pulled the intake....and lo & behold....the same problem he had. The ACIS intake flap snapped off and was bouncing around the intake manifold, most likely plugging #3 intake runner under full throttle, causing the misfire.

After some digging around on here, I found this thread and that this is becoming a more common issue, with everyone here all having the same broken ACIS plenum flap.

I'm gonna keep an eye on this issue, Im wondering just how common this is actually gonna end up being. I know VWs had this issue with their 2.0T intakes...A LOT.

Same issue with my 2016. Was able to fish the broken flap out. Reinstalled without the flap and truck seems to be running great. With the Help of my friend Dom, the whole thing took just over an hour to complete.

So, if it works just fine, sans ACIS intake flap, WTF is that piece of plastic doing in there?

I can't begin to thank you all for the input, and especially the post from chrisone on Jan 31, 2022 where he mentioned that a 3rd party mechanic found the spacer from between the acis flap & the acis actuator had dropped into the intake of the #5 cylinder. My Son's 2016 was having the exact symptoms as described in this string (P0305 Error), but before we found Tacoma World we had changed the sparks, coils, and all injectors since they were 7 years old. No change! Then we happened upon Tacoma World!

Today we replaced the Intake Plenum (Toyota calls it a Tank Assembly!) that houses the ACIS, and we thought we had it until the engine warmed up and it started loping again. FRUSTRATING! So I read each post in this string very carefully, and found the reference to the aluminum/rubber spacer, and sure enough, it was sitting on top of the intake valve. You can't use a magnet to extract, but must use a flexible "4 finger grabber" tool, and it took some time, talent, and strong stomach muscles to extract that little piece of crap!!!! Reinstalled the Plenum, and all works great. I've uploaded pics of the spacer in the intake manifold, and all three ACIS components for reference.

So, my frustration is Toyota knows this is an issue, they know of the spacer, and yet they tell people they need to replace their engine? I think we might need to make a stink about this, and try to get Toyota to credit my Son for his $643 Plenum that is a manufacturers defective product. Unbelieveable!

Thanks again for your help. I have a similar source of "hands on" resources for my 2000 BMW M5 where I do all the mechnicals, and these resources are critical to maintaining our vehicles for many years (23 on mine) at reasonable expenses. Cheers!

Install looks to be 15 lbs for the 4 bolts and 2 nuts, I believe. Can a TW member confirm, or did y'all just eyeball it?

Should I be able to spin these gears in the assembly by hand?
The runner isn't broken off, but there looks to be some of the plastic shrapnel deep in there.
