I know this is a common asked question but can anyone give any steps to remove the knee/kick panel under the steering wheel on a 2016 tacoma properly?

    oh its easy.

Two bolts 10mm i think below the wheel.
You need to pull up the plastic strip next to door sill.
Then remove the plastic piece in the wheel well, there is plastic bolt thing on the floor next to where your left foot would go.
You then just slowly pull it out.

Assuming you have the scuff plate and driver's kick panel already removed, remove the 3 10mm bolts at the bottom of the lower dash panel. If you pull hard enough by the cubby hole, you can pop the top left loose and then just work your way around. I found it easier to just pop the bottom left out, then bottom right and then top left and right.

Thanks for the help! I know what you mean when you say kick plate but where do you mean by scuff plate? I see two of the bolts but is the third hid behind one of these panels?

you don't need to remove the whole kick panel to get to the side buttons, plyers with some tape for padding and pull straight out on the little cubby, that whole piece will come off easy, might not even need plyers, but I did. This is assuming you are talking about the buttons to the left of the wheel

Putting it all back together is mostly easy as well, I kind of got hung up on the SRS Airbag piece as that doesn't come out but just kept shifting it and pushing it until it was flush again.

Its hard to explain, it was just a matter of aligning all the clips up and the air bag. When I pushed the clips in the airbag wasn't aligned perfectly with the hole. Its still super easy though. The airbag plastic cover doesn't come out so you just have to line up the big hole in the panel to that airbag.

You will see when you pull it off, just take your time putting it back on so the clips are aligned.

which buttons are you trying to get to, if it is the ones left of the steering wheel, then see my previous post a few up and it is much easier
