2016 Tacoma Navigation Update?

Hi! I just bought a 2016 and the map is definitely needed upgraded but when I go into see about updating it, it's all blank, nothing to click on. Could it be that the former owner took out the sd card?

 

You should be able to see it under the cover on the lower right corner of the head unit.

 

If they took it out, they owe you one. It's part of the truck. JMO.
My brother bought his 2nd Gen from a dealer and the card was missing. I told him to go back for it, but he never did. They owe him that!

 

Thanks Wayne and Tonered.. I will look and see if it is missing. I was hoping someone would know how it is acting if that is the problem.

 

I believe to update maps you need and newer version of the maps data on an SD card. You can buy the update from the dealer or on EBay. I rarely use the Nav, so I have not done an update. Do you mind sharing the price you paid, trim and your mileage? Just curious what 2016s are selling for in today’s market.

Your maps should still work if outdated. It will just show you driving through a field where a new road was recently built.

 

I'd take this as an opportunity to replace the head unit with a modern one that has wireless android auto / apple carplay. I recently updated my daily driver's head unit to a modern one and it's a significantly nicer driving experience - you can download offline maps in many apps that work with AA/ACP.

 

No it's not working though, that's what made me want to update it. We have had 2 other's so know how it 'should' be working .

I have been all over that thing (navigation) and cannot find where the sd card is. Should be easy, but no! There is a blank square, with a # under it so I assumed that is where it was hiding but now I dont think so. I think it's a blank. I have been looking it up on youtube, AND the owner's manual and still cant locate it yet.

I bought an updated map and have the old sd one if you want it - free - I will sent it usps if you want it - just dm me with information. Old one is sitting the the drawer gathering dust!

not it - should be a rectangle about 3/4inch wide and 1/4 inch tall - maybe you dont have navigation?

Well there is a map, but it is old looking. I thought they all came in with navigation? The 2015 and 2017 did?
