I have an OEM '16 Tacoma self dimming rear view mirror with compass that I removed a week after purchasing my new Tacoma. It looks and performs like brand new. I replaced it with a mirror that has homelink. Selling for $100 shipped. 13417578_10206395922160106_8278978489017789482_n.jpg 13419244_10206395922280109_9015269964858395296_n.jpg

I am really interested in this... is it plug and play? I have a SR5 double cab 4x4
    Thanks!

You know, I'm not sure. I have a TRD Sport, and the wiring was already there. Do you have the overhead "console"? If so, you may be able to remove it and see if the wiring pigtail is there. If it is, I would think it should be plug and play, but again, I don't know for sure.

Me to and thought it would be .. there was a small cutout in headliner right above mirror where a wiring harness would come through, im going to pop out the overhead console tomorrow and check one more time to make sure its not there .. you would think it would be, anyone know where other end of the mirror harness actually attaches ?

Did you find a connector ?
Even if a connector wasn't there could you just wire into the overhead console lighting which is just inches away from the mirror containing the dome lights with an addon harness ?

No i looked everywhere up inside headliner area after popping out the overhead console and no pre-wired pigtail connector for a mirror ... i guess they don't have the pre-wiring installed on the 3rd gen SR5 .. Not a huge deal but i really liked the self dimming mirror i had in my older Dodge

But you can buy the connector and harness and splice back into the dome lighting, i think. Do you have the dome lights up there ? That should be all you need for power to the mirror. If you need a +12 only when truck is on then I would think you would have to run a wire down further.

And no there is not any place on back side of my overhead console that has an empty spot to plug any type of harness into for that powered mirror

Maybe i am not sure how those mirrors are wired up ... have never seen a post from anyone who has the 3rd gen SR or SR5 and installed that self dimming mirror

It seems you could get power easily from the lighting and run the wire out the opening to the connector for the mirror. You need to pull a 12 volt acc when truck is on from below, meaning running a wire from overhead to below.

How did you take out the overhead console? Are there screws? I have the self dimming rear view mirror with compass. I can check the wiring. I'm looking to tap the switched power and run wiring to my radar detector.

The overhead console just snaps in place with some plastic inserts up inside. Start at front corner of console (closest to drivers side and windshield) get your fingers between edge of console and headliner and pull straight down .. you will feel it pop loose, then work your way around each corner and it will pull loose. I changed my map light bulbs to LED's using this method and it took less than 5-minutes

Thanks for the info and the photo…

I tried to pop out the console this afternoon. It appears to take more force to remove than I expected. I don’t want to break anything on a brand new truck. I’ll try again this weekend.

You have to pull pretty hard, i know it seems you are going to break something but those plastic plugs (red plugs in my pic above) snap in tight. I have the 2016 SR5 and i am guessing they all pop straight down like mine

To update: I eventually got a round to pulling out the overhead console. Yep you have to pull pretty hard. I changed out the Map lights to LED's while I had it out.
The wiring for the mirror is not connected to the overhead console. It wraps around and feeds down through the head liner. I've been told that the wiring harness
and connector are there for every style truck. So adding a mirror should be easy.

There are three wires connected to the mirror. Blue +12V, Tan +12V, and (White with Black Stripe Gnd).
I tapped the Tan +12V (switched) and the (White with Black Stripe Gnd) to power my radar detector I mounted under the mirror.

" I've been told that the wiring harness

... i have a 2016 SR5 and have looked a couple times up inside my overhead console and do not see any wiring harness/connector for a mirror. I was told they stopped pre-wiring the SR & SR5 in 2016 models ... NOW im going to have to go check and look again for the 3rd time
