I love the 2016 tacoma and everything about it. basically i want to know if i should get one...anyone know of any real problems with it? i heard about acceleration issues and it cant find a comfortable gear to be in, and the obvious manual seating positions. what are your thoughts?

I went back and forth for about 3 months and finally did it. Those few things folks complain about bothered me but now not even an issue. It's a great truck all around and all of them have a few drawbacks. Long term reliability and my experience with Toyota did it. So far 1,500. miles and it's great and seems to get better as it is broken in. I had a 2002 4runner and it was incredible. My mother in law still drive it!!!

Mine does seem to be searching for a gear and often needs some "right foot" persuasion to get going. It tends to upshift a bit early. Hope it settles down after get a few miles on it (less than 2k today).

Do some lookin around..... the gremlins are starting to popup. Make sure if u park on a hill that u coast it with engine off until on level ground before u start it.

I use mine about the same. I ended up going with SR5 4x4 double cab short bed. I toyed around with the long bed but it wouldn't fit in my garage. I had the sun roof on my 4runner but really never used it so I didn't get one. I think it's a perfect middle ground with the technology and the things you really need. It's my daily driver and I put about 50 miles a day on it. Probably will upgrade stereo somehow and get mudguards and that's it for now.

Consider reliability over anything. I have been lurking around here for a few months now and have test driven the Nissan Frontier, currently own a Dodge Dakota, looked at the GM twins, and even waited for the reveal of the Honda Ridgeline. Lets start with the Ridgeline, its front wheel drive, nope. GM twins, maybe a bit more comfortable, did not actually test drive one, just sat in it, but does not have the history of reliability. My Dakota, yes a 2005 that does have 8 way power drivers seat, but otherwise outdated. Nissan, I would say more comfortable than Tacoma, does offer some features for less, but does miss some features Toyota has. You have warranty, so any issues you have early on will be taken care of.

What..... What the heck are you talking about???

I start the truck on a hill every morning. I warm it up on a hill for 15 minutes fairly regularly. It even has hill start assist. That's the weirdest crap I've ever heard anyone say about this truck. Do you know something I don't know?

I'm 1100 miles in and I don't have any darn gremlins. The only problem I have with my truck is that I can't stop thinking about it and want to drive it all the time.

OP, I say go for it. I had 2nd Gen and that's a great truck too. The new 3.5 seems to pull a little less off the line, but the experience is awesome all the same. You get more bang for your buck with the TRDOR package, but the SR packages are very nice and if you don't need all the doohickeys then you might as well save your money. Regarding finding a comfortable gear, as I've driven the truck, it's become less of an issue. Things like transmission hunting and mpg have leveled out as the truck's figured out my driving habits.

Over all, I have no complaints. Except that I'm not driving it right now. Same as my experience with my 2nd gen.

The automatic is plenty powerful. I am coming from an old 2002 manual Tacoma so I am used to barely tapping the throttle to get a reaction from the tachometer. With the 2016 auto I learned you gotta give it about 10% more pedal travel from a dead stop. It's not good or bad, it is just different. After you realize that the auto gets off the line pretty dang well. I think the complaints about the acceleration have been grossly overstated. Go and test one and keep what I said in mind about the gas pedal.

If you're used to driving a vehicle with an eco mode, you won't notice any issues with the transmission or acceleration.

I mean, not every day, but on super cold days when I don't feel like being cold on the way to work. Hey, stop judging me. I can feel your judgment.
