05s had engine mount bolt issues I believe and a few minor growing pains, tailgate, leafs, etc. I wouldn't hesitate buying a 16, but you can't argue the 15 is proven, 200+k guys a plenty

Biggest one is 2005-2006 trucks having head gasket issue. On the top of frame cracking at engine mounts and whole range of problems that came out after 2 years.

So in the last 10 years. None. So there is no concern about the new motor. Thanks BlueT.

So if I'm looking at this correctly, you can no longer get a Double Cab 4 cyl? Let alone a PreRunner?

Prerunner is now a misnomer. The days of the lower car-like suspension (like on cheap work trucks) are over. It's all the Prerunner suspension now.

    Ahh makes sense.

But still, I don't see any Double Cab 4 Cyl, only Access Cab 4 Cyl.

[Edit: I'm an idiot and I was looking at the 4x4 sheet not the 4x2 sheet.]

Not that it matters to anyone it seems but talking about the status of the person involved in the leak probably isn't going to help his situation. Still 9 guests on this page, lots of traffic coming through here from somewhere and I would gamble a bit of it is from Toyota themselves now. Leak plugging time on here for Toyota. If I worked for Toyota corporate I'd stop using my TW account from my work computer just in case something happens again. I'm guessing they will do everything in their power now to track down and plug additional leaks of new information here ASAP, which is sad for us just wanting to know a bit more about the new/revised/whatever truck.

This truck went up in price because it's competition, the GM twins, are priced higher MSRP. It just makes sense for Toyota to ask a bit new for their 2016 Tacoma. Everyone does this when they release a new/revised/whatever model. They ask a bit more than the other guys for their premium offering and next thing you know you get a situation like full sized trucks have MSRP's touching $70K for the fancy ones. The problem with Toyota is that they don't come down off their price as much, in general, as the big 3 so that means the Tacoma will now likely be significantly more OTD than a GM tiny twin.

Okay. My friend is interested in a base 2015 PreRunner Double Cab 4x2 with a 4 Cyl engine and was debating about waiting until the 2016s came out and didn't now if there was going to be something similar since it's not a popular configuration anyway.

Who pays MSRP? I've never paid MSRP. Even my first new car purchase was $1500 below list back in 1991. True Car is showing a lot less than MSRP for the 2015s, and should be similar for the 2016s.

    You missed my point.
Sure some Toyota dealers will move off MSRP and people should work to get that price by using tools like True Car but, overall, it is much easier to get $3-$4K off a Colorado than it is off a Tacoma so that will effect the final price OTD for most people.

Also, my point of the original sentence was that manufactures compare their pricing and ask more for their newest offerings because they can get it from the consumer. We all like new and shiny. Did anyone realistically think that after the Colorado pricing came out Toyota was going to keep selling the Tacoma cheaper than the GM? The only reason it happened for even a year was because Toyota had the new Tacoma already in the pipeline RTG.

I think some folks are irked by the price increase because it's a very similar truck to the 2nd gen. Same frame, same cabs, alot of similar components, held over cheapo drums, same 2.7L engine, reg cab (14') and 5 lugs dropped for cost saving reasons. They're cutting corners and getting cheaper whereas GM went in and made a whole new truck. I don't see a good reason for the considerably higher costs of comparable 15's vs 16's. I guess it could be the magic new 3.5L that Toyota will say "costs" more to produce.

GM didn't make a whole new truck though, they just slightly modified their world model. Just saying.

I think the amount of possible 2016 buyers that are actually choked about the revision/new truck is very small. Most of the guys who are perturbed weren't really looking for a new truck when you keep reading. It's easy to see why they're pissed. They expected something that knocked their socks off but, TBH, Toyota isn't that sort of company. In 2002-2004 Toyota decided to go to a larger truck and hence why the 2005 was a totally fresh design. However the 2016 is staying nearly the same size as the 2015, which I like, so Toyota didn't have to change every little thing to make a new truck. Look at a 2015 F150. It's a total redesign but the cab lines are nearly exactly the same. Does that mean Ford wimped out on their redesign? Nope. It just means they had a size that worked and they didn't need to reinvent it to build a new truck. Same with Toyota.

As for the drums, production streamlining (cost cutting would mean job or production loss, neither is happening), and new engine the arguments have gone to the point of silliness. Who cares. If drums bug you there is a competitor out there waiting for your dollar. Vote with your cash for discs and maybe Toyota will notice.

Toyota has something shiny. Time to ask for a bit more than GM's MSRP. No other excuses necessary.

Toyota probably gets on here to see what we are bitching about. "oh TW guys hate the front ends of the 2016 huh?...well then lets put a air dam on it and really fuck their minds"!!!
