I just got a call from the Toyota dealer, after dropping it off last week for a rattling sunroof, crashing of the stereo system and a glitch with the cruise control. I was told they couldn't duplicate the problem with the cruise control because I'm sure they only took it around the block and back. We have no hills around here so unless they actually went for a 20 minute drive with my truck with cruise control and found some hills to go up they would never duplicate this problem. This really pisses me off! But I understand they have to start a ticket with my truck so as I continually bring it in for the same problem eventually they will have to look into it harder, it's just a shame when someone spends $40,000 they act as if you are possibly lying. I know there is a protocol they have to follow but they should also realize people have better things to do then drive to the dealer and be without their vehicles. Why would anyone make something up and waste their time at the dealer. The sunroof was messed up from the factory there was a bolt that was actually loose and they had to re-drill the hole in order to fit the bolts in properly so my suggestion is stay away from the sunroof obviously they aren't putting them together right from the factory. They want me to drive around with the stereo without a phone paired to it and see when the next reboot happens. This is great as I have a 1200 mile road trip coming up, I can't wait to not be able to use my phone or stream Pandora on the trip! Honestly if I could do it over I absolutely would not buy the Tacoma in fact if they offer to take this truck back I will gladly bring it back. Toyota has dropped the ball and this is only the start with 2500 miles on it. They obviously are not the car company they once were and don't deserve The reputation anymore. I am super pissed off I have a busy life and do not have time for this BS. Bottom line is all the manufacturer suck balls these days. Everyone does everything half ass, these car manufacturers all need a serious enema!

If they all suck, whats the best of the sucky ones? What do you expect out of the others then? Not saying this to poke ya, just seriously you are willing to get out of the taco, but what are you going to get if they all suck?

Not sure if I read that correctly but you use your cruise control on hills? And what's happening with your cruise control?

Sorry to hear about your situation. An Aux cable or USB can fix your "streaming" issues for the time being to just test the pairing problem on your head unit. Overall though, I don't see this as all Tacoma's suck...luck of the draw I guess and that is just unfortunate but I am sure this has happened even back in the glory days. It is nothing new.

If you're going 65 on the freeway and a hill comes it likes to downshift to fourth gear but when you crest the hill active engine braking kicks in and it never shifts out of fourth gear, The RPMs are screaming and it tries to slow the damn truck down when it should kick into overdrive and Coast down the hill with very little rpm's.

The dealer wants me to drive around without my phone plugged in or connected by Bluetooth. If it wouldn't have been a $2000 upgrade for the silly stereo system I wouldn't be on this forum with this problem. I wish I would have skipped the Entune and just put my own stereo system in it. My suggestion to anyone looking at this thread is put your own stereo in the car.

I wish I would have bought an older Tacoma with 100,000 miles on it. I could have saved $20,000 and a headache with all this Electric crap. I go through cars like nobody's business. I had an 08 Nissan titan on 35 inch tires with a 6 inch fab tech lift the transmission went out on it before 60,000 miles. So I wouldn't get a Nissan titan. I had a Z 71 which got great mileage but also got stuck in overdrive a few times but they reflash the computer and it never happened again.I had an 07 Yukon which burned a quart and a half of oil every 3000 miles but no one could ever find a leak. I guess this is pretty common for that year. I had a 2013 Chevy express extended van and honestly I never had any issues with that van it was just a gas guzzler. So I guess the answer to your question is none of them. Which brings me to my previous comment all these car manufacturers need a serious enema. After all these years of trials and tribulations with new cars I'm honestly starting to lean hard back towards the old-school vehicles without all the computer crap. I should have just dumped a ton of money into an old-school truck. If I don't $40,000 into an old truck I would imagine it would be quite a show truck!

That's normal to downshift on hills. It's to save your brakes from wear and tear as much as possible. As for your entune. I read somewhere that some people were having problems with the system randomly restarting. Some took the radio out of the dash and just tightened the power cable to resolve the problem. Others got Toyota to replace the head unit all together. Its not a problem I've heard of in quite awhile. I've experience the problem too but after 10,000 miles its only happened a handful of times. Not enough to really be a problem for me. As for the sunroof thats the first time I've heard of this problem. Not to insult you but are you sure its a factory Toyota sunroof? Is it on the Monroney sticker? Are you sure it wasn't added by the dealership after the fact by some aftermarket shop?

Uh, pardon my ignorance, but if you're going 65, down a big hill, and it "kicks into overdrive" wouldn't you speed up quite a bit beyond your set 65mph speed?

No it's completely from factory it was a special order because of the long bed. If I spend as much as I did on my truck there should be no glitches ever, I would never be happy with a vehicle that doesn't work 100% as it is intended. People all over these forums are having the same issue with the radio, in fact my service dealer said that they are having this issue in epic proportion's with the stereo. Sometimes my stereo will not even reboot and the only way to get it to work again is to pull over shut down the truck and completely restart it. That's awesome you don't let it bother you but I on the other hand get very pissed. If I pay for something full price it better damn well work like it should. They told me if it happens again they will replace the head unit. Has anyone had the head unit replaced and had the problem resolved by replacing the head unit?

I recall that several people had their units replaced and never experienced the issue again. That's not a guarantee though. I think your getting yourself kind of worked up prematurely. Accept the fact that almost every Automatic transmission is going to downshift on steep declines. Get yourself a new head unit and see what happens. And yes you are definitely right about the sunroof, that is kind of bullshit but it sounds like they resolved it?

All I'm saying that instead of yelling and throwing a tantrum, you should let Toyota resolve the problem for you and if they don't keep bugging them about it. Don't get all upset about a first year model not meeting 100% reliability and enjoy the small things in life like how you are fortunate enough to own a $40,000 vehicle

No you wouldn't speed up if your cruise control is set you just drop RPMs like every other vehicle I have ever owned in my life. The transmission is supposed to downshift when it gets to a hill to maintain speed and once you are over the hill and going down the other side it should upshift to the next gear which is fifth or sixth gear and drop the RPMs down while still maintaining the same speed the cruise control was originally set at. It wants to slow the vehicle down as if it is doing active engine braking even when it is not necessary. Unless it's a huge hill and you actually have to tap your brakes to slow down, usually a downhill will still need a little bit of throttle action to maintain speed otherwise it would slow way down. This is not how any other vehicle I have ever owned works, which is a ridiculous amount of cars… None have ever performed like the Tacoma. Even other years of Tacomas do not do this I am not going to settle for the answer this is how it's supposed to be, I assure you this is not how Toyota wants the transmission to be shifting I'm sure there is an update to come. Active engine braking is one thing, this is active engine braking happening when it is not supposed to. I'm a car nut I understand how everything works I'm telling you there is a flaw with the programming. I'm telling you it's stuck in fourth gear screaming down the highway even when the truck needs more throttle to maintain speed, it's hung up in fourth gear until I do something about it manually. Sure, I can get it to shift into overdrive no problem but I don't want to do anything when cruise control is set except for sit there like I'm supposed to. Hell I can just slap it over and use manual shifting to avoid the frustration, my point is it's flawed somehow and I'm not the only one experiencing this. I have been told there is an update but my local dealer does not know of one.

Maybe we are misreading your posts and the issue is more serious than what we are thinking, Could you post a video possibly?

The issue with your Cruise Control 'sticking' is the that you need to have TSB 077-16 done (see the sticky). It'll Fix that issue and make the tranny shift much better. Mine had this issue and now it is 100% resolved.

If you already had this done then disregard, I didn't read the walls of text...

TSB 077-16 should be done for sure. THEN, try it and see. If the CC is maintaining a set speed going downhill, it will absolutely downshift to use engine braking as it sees fit to maintain the set speed. I'm betting you really don't have an issue with it.

Do you need to know, or care?
Have you had TSB 077-16 done to your tranny?

EDIT: Sorry guys, didn't see your posts. What ^^^ said.

All you need to do is replicate the conditions for them.

I took their head technician for a ride in my truck while he had the TechStream hooked into my OBD2, I replicated the condition I had that caused the issue and he had it all being recorded, he saw everything the computer saw in real time and had that information saved.

In my case, my issue happened at 70 MPH which is 5 over our highway speed limit, so they were not able to replicate the condition regardless since they can't drive a customer car above posted speed limits (officially..).

If you're that pissed off and that short on time to take multiple trips, take a tech on a 20 minute drive and show him the hills and the cruise control failing. Worked for me.
