Well if you knew how to drive you would know it uses more gas like I originally said...not that you didn't know how to drive. The computer doesn't know whats ahead of the vehicle like human can see and predict. That is why manuals are still prized after for road course driving. I make trips from Houston, Tx to Colorado 2 to 3 times a year, 2500 mile round trip and cruise control is only optimal for flat road driving especially with the 3.5 cruising at lower RPMs. Shit you can drive there in 5th if you wanted but not very efficient. You were throwing a tantrum about over stressing tans/engine in cruise control in 4th gear going up and over hills therefore contradicting your whole post using cruise control the entire trip in hilly situations.

Is it me or are some people just resistant to being helped. I counted several members on here trying to give OP advice and help and he just cussed up a storm. I don't get it.

Some people can't be helped. It's just they're so disturbed/angry and anything little thing that upsets them, the tiraid will start. Was probably bullied when he was a kid. Maybe he's still a kid based on those comments he posted. He couldn't even form a paragraph properly. I'm no grammatical expert, but that first post was difficult to read.

In my single post in this thread I was working my way towards pointing out that the OP is clueless. Unfortunately I never got a chance.

You know, there are far bigger problems in the world. I myself just purchased 60 acres in the Colorado wilderness so I have a place to take my Tacoma and all of my guns to live after Hillary gets elected. Where I'm going you don't need cruise control.

@TacoRD16 I'm not sure where you live. I like live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Great Smokies. We use cruise control all the time here. Whether you use cruise control or foot control there is inherently a fuel efficiency problem in mountain driving. We also burn our brakes out on a regular schedule, especially if drivers don't use engine braking. You are correct that we have gotten accustomed to not using cruise control when descending the steeper grades, but with the newer transmissions like the one in the new Taco's I see no reason to not use cruise control. Especially when you are navigating interstates or other modern freeways that do not have sharp corners that demand a more active driving experience. In fact I would encourage drivers to use cruise controls when driving modern vehicles because I find the downshifts to be conservative and should lead to less brake maintenance issues. Many drivers today have never driven manual transmissions and therefore, don't understand engine braking and how to use it properly. My 2017 Tacoma does an excellent job of maintaining the set speed, even on steep grades, I would like to see automatic braking to be used for this as well. Does anyone know of systems that engage the breking system to maintain cruising speed?

I admit I've grown up in the flat lands of Texas on the gulf coast. I was stating the cruise control gets worse mpg than foot control... that's just fact. I've made my fair of mountain driving and have gotten the same or better mpg in the mountains than driving at grade level. My driving habits is pick up speed on the way down then pull off of the gas while going up and using my momentum. Engine braking is a totally different topic and I just drop it in low gear manually since the Taco still run rear drums which by design fails at releasing heat.

I understand, you have a valid point. Especially with older 3 speed automatic transmissions like the ones I grew up with. But maintaining a consistent speed with these new transmissions, 6 speed in the new Taco's and 8 speed in some cars, I'm not so sure that foot control can save economize much except on relatively flat roads. Like today, I climbed the Saluda Grade, it is a relatively steep grade with gentle curves. My 2017 Taco went to 3rd gear and stayed there for the entire grade, about 5 miles I estimate. It wouldn't matter if you were on cruise or foot control. Foot control only saves fuel where the tranny is constantly searching for the right gear or where a slower acceleration precludes a shift to a lower gear. It seems to me that my new Taco is doing less searching now with 2500 miles on it that it did when I first bought it. So I think that there is some kind of learning curve going on in the computer as well.

Will Cruise control work if you were to lock the tranny in fourth or fifth gear ? , If not it's a big advantage using manual right foot because seems to be less work on the engine when you see grades coming up just to downshift to a lower gear and hold it there and use your foot to moderate the RPMs rather than let it keep shifting and rev high and low and so on and so
