So, I have been looking all around for a new rear plate bumper for my 1st gen. Don't really feel like spending $775 (shipped) for one. Trying to keep below $600. So I found Shrockworks' rear bumper, simple but doable, for $545 shipped. But holy shit, their lead time is 3 months!! So I found a great deal on a Fab Four from a 2016 Tacoma. I know that with the right tools and creativity, you can make anything fit, but does anyone know how close or far off the fitment of this would be? I know the "side towers" of the bumper would have to come off, but is the width that far off?

Any info or ideas you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

    Here's the Fab Four bumper:

Dang it man, I would have a local fabricator try and make something for ya.

Yeah, that's the next option or, just get a piece of rectangle boxed steel and weld something up in the garage similar to . I will be pulling my boat (5,300lbs) with it and I don't completely trust my welds under that much load...

In answer to your original questions, a bumper made for a 2016 truck will not even come close to fitting your truck. The frames on 2nd and 3rd gens are tapered to the rear, so the mounting brackets would be off, the width is different, the towers under the taillights are different, etc. You would have to completely cut it apart and redo it to make it work.

Make one yourself, like you said. If you feel iffy about your welding, tack it all up and take it to a local welder to burn it in for you.

Dammit, don't be the voice of reason here! Thank you though. I knew the towers/width/mounting brackets would be off, just didn't know by how much and I did not know the frames taper on the newer ones. Well, it was a thought. The bumper is such a killer deal though! Swing out spare tire carrier, jerry can holder, the works!

I like the idea of taking it in for final welds. Thank you!

It always seems to me that rear bumpers are highly overpriced. I built my rear bumper with swingout, spare tire carrier, fuel rack, etc. for about $250 in materials. It's not as cool looking as those fabricated plate bumpers, but I guarantee it's stronger.

I think they are too. I just got an All-Pro Apex front for $870 shipped, but at least it houses a winch, 4'' lights, comes with new LED blinkers and a valance that covers the radiator. Then companies want to charge $100 less for the most basic of rear bumpers... I think yours looks great and for the price, can't beat that! My only two things are that I don't want a tube bumper and I want a 2'' receiver built in. Pretty easy list. Anything else is bonus! Looks like I may need to get off my ass and start cutting and welding up a bumper.
