It's your AC. Same concept as the power steering load on the engine theory.
    All normal.

It's funny... I bought a Tacoma for the first time yesterday and came here looking to see if this was a problem or not. Mine acts as if the AC is running while in idle (just like it was described here), except my AC wasn't running. Mine will fluctuate from 500rpm to about 1000rpm...

It will also stutter a bit as I decelerate and it once even stuttered bad... I have been driving an old Jeep with "issues" up until I bought this Tacoma yesterday. It would die at red lights and while cold... so my mind automatically compared the Tacoma's stutter to the old jeep's issues.

So... Like any other normal person, I jump on the intertubes to see what's going on. I read through a horror story or two (they might even be real horror stories and not just super anal people), a few stories that sound similar to mine but eventually even out and disapear after the first ~10k miles. And this post...

Anyways, remember when I said the AC wasn't on? Well it wasn't. I live in the desert so AC is basically life support and know about the compressor/RPM correlation. I had shut off my AC to see if that was the problem (since a 500 rpm flux seemed a little high) and the problem still persisted.

But tonight, while reading this post and sitting in my brand new truck like a kid with his christmas toys, I decided to make sure one more time... I shut off the AC and the truck instantly leveled out. I took it for a drive and the stutter was gone.

I don't know what caused the original RPM flux and stutter... But they worked themselves out and now my only flux comes from the AC which is what I have been seeing for however long it's been since the other issue worked itself out.

So, while there's obviously something going on... There are way to many people who have the same issue asking about it on the internet for it to be a non-issue... It seems to work itself out after a while. Some at 8,000 miles, others (like me) at 200 miles.

    So I think it's just a break-in period thing.

Thanks for the sub and thread, guys! If it wasn't for this particular thread on this site, I wouldn't have tried the AC again and would have been slightly worried for who knows how long... Probably until winter when I next shut off the AC, lol.

I can now go back to sitting in my truck in the driveway like a fat kid eyeing chocolate cake.

    God I love this truck.
