Fwiw, if anyone has roofracks mounted and installed them without plugging the mount holes with silicone, that's another source of water to seep in.

Some of this stuff is hard to hear and believe. This is freaking Toyota. This is 2017, not 1917. Roofs are not supposed to leak on cars and trucks. This crap is not supposed to happen. We should also be able to make a rear differential that doesn't howl a few hundred miles into a new truck experience. I love my truck so far but I'm irritated as crap over my rear diff and want it fixed like yesterday. I would hate to have some of these other issues mentioned and hope I don't. If I do, I'm not sure I won't jump ship. But, it's late and I'm tired so maybe I'll feel different tomorrow and maybe none of this crap will happen to me. Any way you slice it though, some of this stuff that is happening is just crap. It shouldn't happen.

    A few minor things...
If your still stock, take it to the dealership and let them worry about it.

Well I took my Tacoma into the dealer and they fixed the third break light water leak. They had the part in stock. Took about a week and they gave me a brand new Camry as a rental car. Seems like they are acknowledging that they know they have a problem.

    Yup. What he said.
I believe the issue is in the gasket, not the brake light itself. After removing a few, the gasket is not thick enough to make full contact/seal. When I reinstalled mine, I used a thicker foam seal combined with clear silicone for added insurance. No issues thus far

Third brake light. There has been multiple other 3rd gens with this issue documented. Take it to dealer ASAP before headliner gets worse and dealer tries the line of "should have brought it in sooner. New third brake light and headliner is $2850"

I have a 2016 Tacoma I got in the November of 2015. After my first wash I noticed a wet spot on the headliner and it was the third brake light. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the gasket.

Then it happen again went back for the second time they replaced the gasket again and silicone that lasted for a few months till it happen again.

The third time I went back was about a year ago and the master mechanic Mel over at Toyota of Puente Hills had made me a custom gasket from some 3m material he had got from his from(not a genuine Toyota gasket).

Well it lasted about a little over and year and after my wash last night I got oh too familiar stain on my headliner again. My truck now has 45,000 miles on it do you think the dealer is going to cover it?

Oh and not to mention my driver seat has been replaced because of a spring popping thru at about 15000 miles, rear license plate lights have been replace 3 times from water getting in them and causing a short, and my rear leaf springs were replace at 10,000. Im pretty sure I got a lemon.

Toyota sure is bad at keeping liquids from getting through things lol

With receipts, or the dealer may have computerized record of your visits, you have a paper trail showing an ongoing problem with the brake light leak. You may be able to get some results there.

But, license plate light bulbs going out does not constitute a 'lemon'.

If the rear springs were replaced (you didn't say why) and the problem is fixed, no case there either.

Spring in the seat? If you can show you didn't do anything to cause that thanyou may be able to get a new seat but, overall, you've no ground for a 'lemon' case.

I just encountered the third brake light leak at 20K miles. Dealer will fix it. I was told it is an issue with an over toqued gaskets from the factory. I have to wait a week to see if they can locate the part, then who knows how long till it gets fixed. Service tech said "Toyota is aware of the issue". I am thinking a thin bead of clear silicone until I get a fix. Fortunately I live in SoCal so not much rain.

Did they verify it wasn't the GPS antenna and/or roof racks if you have those installed?

Hi all, I'm sitting at the dealer right now with my 2017 TRD SPORT , because they replaced that rear light and it started leaking worse. The service manager said they are finding a lot of these and they've narrowed it down to a seam in the right side of the roof that wasn't welded correctly at the factory. They're keeping it for a week. WONDERFUL!!

I was told the gasket was a peel and stick adhesive. The gasket was installed with the backing not peeled off to expose adhesive. They had parts in stock and fixed in an afternoon. So far no more leaks.

I just discovered my 2016 Tacoma (purchased from dealer in Sept. 2016) leak into interior - above back window along bottom of headliner, much like the others I've read. I'll double check the 3rd brakelight. I have a call into Toyota dealer right now. To all the forum folks - thanks a bunch for the info.
