Is it normal to have rust in engine compartment. It's a 2016 Tacoma which I picked up on 7/2016. I will attach a photo. IMG_0796.jpg

Judging by the picture that is your exhaust manifold. Exhausts will rust pretty much always because they get super hot and cool down over and over. It can make the metal sweat or have condensation. Only way they normally won't rust is if they are ceramic coated or painted with high heat paint. Which most of the time wears off.

This looks to be completely normal.

There is so much unpainted steel on tacomas.

Perfectly normal on the manifolds and exhaust even just sitting on the lot new.

Almost through winter and I see the only things on the truck that have rust are exhaust bolts and the bare metal on the drives shaft yokes

    Normal.

My muffler is starting to get surface rust due to the winter here in KS. Frame has zero rust. Just keep washing the truck and you're good to go.

Steel rusts. Not a new concept. Steel can rust from simple humidity.

My 2017 was built in Mexico in November and arrived at my dealer in Pennsylvania in December with rust on the manifold. It happens

Edit: on a side note.....if you want to get a real Rusto-phobea complex crawl under some brand new Dodge ram trucks at a dealer....yikes!

My Taco has the cleanest undercarriage of any new vehicle I've ever purchased.

I know there was a lawsuit and Toyota agreed to buy back trucks with frame damage. Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved especially with the 3rd gen Tacomas?

What issue on 3rd gens? Until it's an actual issue there's nothing Toyota will do.

Point is that this is a new 3rd gen truck and entirely too new for there to be an issue to resolve. You are referencing years that are decades ago..

We won't know if the 3rd gen will have issues until 10 years from now.
