Hello, I thought I would make a post about this issue since I couldn’t seem to find the topic on TW.

I bought a 2016 Tacoma SR5 back in June of 2020 and loved it. Over the last couple of months I noticed it would shift at random times and when coming to a stop, it almost felt like it would upshift or miss a gear. Well that was very rare and would only happen once in a blue moon. Well over the past couple of days, when cruising around 20mph up to 30mph or a little faster I noticed a vibration. No it doesn’t feel like driving on the shoulder vibration, it shakes the whole truck violently. I took it to Toyota on Nov 16th and they checked and saw it needed a “reflash” and that would fix the issue. I went home and noticed that shaking/vibration was still there. Took the Tacoma back, 18th and they just found out the torque converter was shot. $3000-$4000 fix. Luckily I got the extended 10 yr warranty, we will see if they honor it. I will update down the road if this actually fixes the issue.

How many miles on the truck? Lots of complaints about shifting with the automatic, especially the earlier ones. Failures are pretty rare. Hopefully your warranty covers it.

Sorry completely forgot to follow up with this. Ended up being the torque converter went out and had to be replaced, $3400. Luckily warranty covered the cost and took about 5 days to get done.
