That is also what I have Hear (second hand from sources that have proved reliable in the past). Replaces the 4.0 with maybe a slight torque increase and a mpg increase.

In some of the other threads speculating on the 2016 Tacoma there have been more than one poster, that has proven to have advanced knowledge in the past, giving details. They are roughly confirmed by tashcomer in this thread.

Edit: The 2.7 doesn't have any changes other than maybe a new auto trans coming. Maybe a new manual, but that has not been mentioned by anyone with any credibility that I have seen.

Take all this for what it is worth.

Maybe the 4cyl will get a 5 or 6 speed or something.

6? Yikes. Hopefully that addresses low end and top end power.

Interesting they're downsizing the V6. Maybe another engine option being played with besides the I4/V6 now? Some people will need more than 2 extra gears and a smaller V6 for towing.

Agreed. I hate red turn signals. Amber signals are waaaayyyy easier to see.

Irks me that so many manufacturers abondon amber for red, especially with LEDs where lens colour is no longer a factor anyways.

I hope so. A diesel with better MPG's possibility than I can attain in the 2.7l and as much/more towing than 4.0l would get me to trade in my truck way before my lifetime plan.

Same. I hope the final release has LED taillights. These look exactly like current gen Tundra tails.

I do too, it hasn't been unlike Toyota and Honda to have had led tails on a previous model, the they delete that from the new, and bring it back during the refresh.

It will have LED tail lights. They aren't going to go backwards in technology.

Well they did in 2011 or 2012 when they removed the led tails from the base truck, when they all had them in 2010.

The whole world is changing to LED's. This will have them.

Shit, it might even have LED headlight technology that actually works.

I expect big things from this truck. They took a long time to develop it, so I expect a grand slam.

All this bickering back and forth about what it could possibly maybe have. I'm just gonna wait a few weeks and see what Toyta announces.

And I'm glad that im not the only person who loathes red turn signals. Bloody useless.

The 4 banger got an increase in power with the new generation. 178 HP vs the the previous generations 158. So the engine had seen improvements.

The current Tacoma has had the same exact engine for 10 years, thats longer than any of these other carry over engines your talking about. Willing to bet that they figure its lived its useful cycle.

    ..... again

its going to be the 3.5L 2GR-FSE tuned for ~ 270-280hp and similar torque numbers.

toyota is not going to reinvent the wheel when they have a perfectly good power plant option.

I'm expecting modular fenders and quarters to accommodate different aftermarket wheel sizes! Ya that won't happen so possibly a blaupunkt head unit option. MAybe? Ok just bring on the baby tundra with ultra bling grille.
