Well, at least they moved the trailer connector to a less vulnerable place.

I hope they retain amber turn signals, not the stupid red turn signals common in American-branded trucks.

^May be a tiny LED on the other side.

Not sure if the photo was intentionally cropped to say "Taco" on the tailgate.

I'm not speaking toward a Hybrid but something that will assist a large gas motor under load such as acceleration from a start would greatly improve millage and the tech is out there for cheap. It would save massive amounts on gas cost and would deff make this truck more appealing. There has even been a lot of "forum" talk that this is how toyota is building the new Supra with BMW.

Some of the LMP hybrid cars have one axle that is driven by the internal combustion engine and the other axle driven by the KERS / electric system

Those are really nice too but a lot of extra parts. I was thinking more of the current systems that actually help drive the crank shaft under load. Its bolted on to a gear drive on the front of the motor. Think about how much power we are loosing while at idle that could be used to charge a battery or capacitor that would power a motor that will discharge under load. Epic MPG gains. I'm thinking a cheaper F1 style. For every day use

Take this for what it's worth but considering the picture leaked today and the Tundra like similarities (yes it is a small area of the 2016 Tacoma shown) there is a guy that posted this on Reddit 2 months ago. May be some truth to what he said.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/Toyota/comments/2hxcn8/2016_tacoma_details_from_toyota_dealer_owner/

    2016 Tacoma news.
From the mouth of the Owner/GM at my local Toyota dealer whom I've known for 15 yrs, and just got back from new product meetings recently.
Here's what he told me while I waited for my car to be serviced.
Should debut 1 year from now in the fall 2015 Oct/Nov.
All new from ground up. Toyota has clearly been working on this for a while and likely were waiting to see what the new Colorado was like so they can crush it. Probably why the new Tacoma dealers were promised last year for around now didn't happen. They want to get it right.
    Expect a Tundra-like interior.
No carryover engines! All new more powerful and efficient drivetrains including a new 3.5L V6 running on Atkinson cycle. 6 speed manual lives on.
I asked if the front looked like the fugly current 4runner and thankfully he said no, more like a Tundra, but still looks aggressive and all new.
Sadly just going on his word which has been accurate in the 3 prior times he leaked me info (Venza, FRS, all new Corolla). No pics but it can only be a matter of time before legit spy shots turn up or we see something at an auto show.

I am guessing it will be a multistage turbine that can run off of anything from vegetable oil to moonshine. ;)

This article is focused on the Tundra but it's the same variable displacement tech that is being speculated for the 3.5L. Toyota has already said they're going to distribute this throughout their lineup in coming years.
