Yeah probably a remanufactured motor and maybe extended warranty. Bad luck indeed though.

Actually I was reading on the 4runner forums a guy had a transmission failure with his brand new TRD Pro, and Toyota would only replace it with a remanufactured one. Apparently most manufacturers will only replace stuff like that with a remanufactured one even if the vehicle is almost brand new.

Funny the Taco did not even make the news really at all....
yet the new ford and Ram got a lot of play out of the roll outs with a lot of facts and info on specs......
Maybe that is why Taco fell flat. .... no facts or info... just pictures

AND you can read on here about all the motors that have been replaced along with frames and many other problems......
The rebuilt the motors or used short blocks that were remans.

I was not knocking the GM products, I owned nothing but Chevy for the most part from 1985 until 2013. I was wondering if he knew that it would probably be a rebuilt motor, as that is what most manufacturers do with catastrophic failures under warranty.

I realize Tacoma's have had their share of problems as well. Every manufacturer has their horror stories. Thankfully, I've been very fortunate with all of my vehicles over the years, including all of my Chevy's.

I do wonder though, with the way some of the people on this forum talk, why they even own a Tacoma if they're so unhappy with them.

Bty that was one case of a part that failed....
and they are or did give him a new motor is what he said...

now lets wait for all the posts of the motor problems on the 2016 taco.....

it will happen. It does on all brands.

God your getting annoying. If the only thing you like is a first gen then just stay out of the 2nd and 3rd gen section. Its as simple as that.

Same split front mounted/rear mounted shock mounting, same U-bolts, U-bolt plates, same inverted shackles, hell, if my counting is correct, it even appears they are using the same shit 4 pack TSB leaf springs!! Obviously Toyota doesn't give much of a shit about actually improving suspension. Supposedly though, it's a much "smoother" suspension. My ass it is. It looks like this "3rd gen" is going to have the EXACT same issues that the 2nd gen suffered from. Axle wrap during braking and definitely harder braking, as well as spring sag within very short order, unless at least AAL's are added on. Talk about a quality improvement huh?

Same number does not mean they are the same springs. In fact unless the weight between the 2nd and third gen stayed exactly the same, I can almost guarantee they are different. Better, not sure, but most likely different.

So...I am getting confused.... is Tacoma great truck or a total POS? I keep reading comments like that on this forum... both love (super reliable) and hate (frame rusts through by time the truck leaves the lot).

    What gives?

    :confused::eek:

My U-bolts are not black like those pictured..so much hate on these trucks. Reading these threads makes me wonder how many actually like the truck they bought.

Don't mind that, I doubt his vision is that good that he can tell on the pic that the u bolts are exactly the same. I mean really, give me a break.

There's let downs to any car or truck you buy from any brand. People hate of Chevy's a lot on here, but I drove a Chevy for years and my dad drove it for years before that, it was a 96, and I never once had any major problems with it. Haven't had any major problems with my Tacoma either, so I've been pretty happy all things considered. But every brand has its problems but each can do good things. Just my worthless 2 cents.
