Same happened to me...long drive, cruise control on for extended periods of time. All of a sudden there goes tic-toc speedometer needle mostly on the deceleration. So in trying to make sure my speed was accurate I turned on the digital speedometer so I could watch both at the same time and it turns out there is a 5-8mph discrepancy between the digital speed readout and the dial. Dealer says this is normal? Any thoughts?

Mine still does this on occasion. It is annoying because it is not right and there's no way it should be considered Normal for any vehicle. However it is rare and extremely intermittent so it would be next to impossible to replicate for a dealer. There are maybe one or two cases I can recall reading here where others were able to get the dealer to replicate the issue and the repair was to replace the entire Guage cluster. Whether or not this actually fixes the root cause has not been confirmed. And given toyota history of throwing parts at problems rather than positive verification of root cause, I have sincere doubts.

When I first noticed it, it went away pretty quickly...now its much more prevalent which leads me to the cluster issue...I have an appointment this week so I'll keep everyone posted.

First time I noticed my Tach did that jumpy thing today. Once the truck warmed up it went away. I'll keep an eye on it...

Well I noticed today Tach was jumping when hot. So it does it anytime it wants. I talked with my dealer today about about all the crazy shit going on with these trucks. He tells me a TSB will be ready the first of the year for the radio, transmission, and what ever else they can find.

Maybe? But it didn't appear that way. Dealer wanted me to leave it off for the day so they could assess. Then he told me, or You could wait until the first of the year so they could apply the new software. My choice was the first of year because it's not that big of deal presently.

99% of the time dealers do not even know AFTER a TSB has been released how to find it, much less are they able to predict one coming.

I have had two different clusters put in my truck... have had the issue since day one. Even had a Regional engineer fly in to look at it. According to him they need to re engineer a part to send the proper signal to the tac, doesn't make sense to me because the last three times it's happened it's only been the speedo?
It's been driving me nuts for 8500 miles now! Any further details or info on the matter would be awesome.

Yup, mind has 31k and was covered. No charge, just be prepared to wait if they haven’t figured out the back order issue.

Update: got my taco back early. Problem solved for now.

Exactly! Take your truck in immediately and demand they see the tsb and replace the whole assembly. Solved my problem for now - although I waited a month to get it back.

Has anyone figured out this speedometer issue yet? Mine started doing it last week. It either stops working completely or is off by as much as 60 mph. When at a complete stop it was reading 58 mph. I was going about 45 mph and looked down and the speedometer was reading 110 mph! It seems to reset as soon as I turn the truck off and on. I called my local dealer and they said they have never heard of this before. Unfortunately, I'm past my warranty at 35,000 miles and just over 3 years.
