A little over 2,000 miles now and I don't notice any rough idle.

2016 SR 2.7, have idle that bounces between 750-1000 and occasionally lower to 500. Ill be getting it checked next time it is in for service.

Just bringing this back up in case it helps anyone (at the expense of my own stupidity). I've always used the cheapest unleaded in all of my cheap, used cars I've owned in the past with no problems. Turns out this truck really wants 87+ octane. Using 85 seems to be the cause of the rough idle as I haven't replicated it yet with 87.

Checked the manual and it clearly states to only use 87 octane fuel...

Im using 87 and still have a wandering idle. It seems electronic and not vacccum related.

Makes a man wonder if you are actually putting 87 octane gas in your truck even though it states 87 on the pump.

Possible I'd say, but unlikely. I may try putting 91 in next time and see what happens.

I'd be interested in the results. Like I said I haven't reproduced it with the 87, but that doesn't mean it's gone. It was intermittent even before.

2016 V6 Sport with tow package. I have about 600 miles on my truck and just today I stopped on the side of the road to look at something the engine started to stumble from about 900-400 rpm for a few mins, ac was on and I use 87 octane gas. No problems before or after. I only drive 4 miles to work all week with short errands here and there. I wonder if the short trips have something to do with it.

I've never even seen 85 octane for sale. 87 is the lowest

Interesting topic, I'm at the dealer right now looking into the idle issue on my 2016 V-6 Tacoma. I notice mine mostly when creeping into my garage or backing out in the morning. My situation is foot on the brake, A/C off and the truck will lunge forward without touching the throttle. The service writer is telling me that the truck is still learning my driving habits, this is BS!!! The truck has over 2000 miles on it. I'll follow up after I hear something today. I have driven Toyota Trucks / Cars since 1988 and have never had this issue. Hopefully they can correct this, otherwise I'm not going to be happy. When you spend this much money on a new vehicle you should not have to except issues like this.

Mine does the same thing. Ive noticed it more when turning and the p/s pressure switch kicks up the idle. Seems to kick it up too much though especially when backing into a parking spot.

Do you need to know, or care?
Wondering how much this has to do with the self cleansing direct injectors. Normal for it to sound a little diesel like when going into cleansing mode, so also wonder if it affects rpm. Should only do it when hot though, so again wondering maybe a combination of things.

That's standard out west here , at least in Wyoming and Utah - we also can't get higher than 91 for some reason

My idle fluctuates too, but isn't this normal? Has anyone found one that doesn't do it? I don't see what the problem is, can someone help explain?

I have a 4x4 Off road, manual trans.

I took my 2016 SR5 Tacoma in this week for service due to a high idle issue. I have 3,500 miles on the truck. The issue is that the rpm accelerates while transmission is in reverse and the brake is applied. Also, while transmission is in drive and the brake is applied the rpm accelerates. Similar to brake torqueing. I would describe it as lunging backward/forward. The mechanic said that truck did not show any issues when he drove it, even though I experienced the problem on the drive there. He also said that when hooked up to their computer, no issue was found. He too told me that the truck could still be trying to figure out my driving habits. I call BS!! The mechanic did say that he has received several complaints from customers about the same issue. I asked if it was a safety issue, and he said no. I supposed if the high acceleration causes me to back into a pedestrian or other vehicle, that would be considered a safety issue. This is my first Toyota. I have purchased Chevy's my entire life. I know that every vehicle manufacture these days has it's faults. I'm hoping Toyota will stand behind their product, and fix the issue. I love the truck otherwise...

Oh, I put 93 octane in the truck, so poor quality fuel isn't the issue...
