I have noticed same thing. Idle bumps up kind of erratically when coasting, backing up. Been hot here so I have ac on a lot but happens when it's off too. Even when it's parked and idling it does it. Figured it was just the way it is but never had a car do this before. I will bring it up at my 5k also. If anyone ever finds out if this is a real issue, I'd love to hear about it. Sr5 4x4 v6 auto.. 91 octane only .. Have 1300 miles on it now but it's been noticeable since day 1. When it does "rev" up on its own it only about 2-300 rpms I'd say.

I have had my 2016 Tacoma 2WD Sport for 2 months today. It has progressively became louder at idle, especially at start up. The other day it sounded so loud and then the a/c compressor shut off and it got quiet like its supposed to be. Today I noticed it very clear and watched it closely. The compressor goes through its run/stop cycle and it doesn't make a difference, it is still loud. Also, the whole thing just sounds somewhat clanky when you start it up and while it idles and accelerates. It seems like its getting worse. I only have 3600 miles on it. Debating on taking it back to toyota before the 5k service but I would like to know more about what the problem is before I do. I don't think that I will take it to well if they tell me that its still learning my driving habits! LOL! Other than that, I'm getting better than expected fuel mileage and loving it!

The octane rating has no bearing on the quality fuel. In all actuality, 93 doesn't burn as well as 87 octane, but that's important for engines with higher compression ratios. For almost all vehicles, it really doesn't make sense to run 93 in any vehicle that doesn't specifically state to do so. The ECU MIGHT advance the ignition timing and it MIGHT feel a little more responsive, but without some serious testing, it may be hurting overall power of the engine.

This.... all cars with AC require some type of idle air system for when the extra load of the AC compressor is on. It usually shows up at about 200 rpm difference.

Please note, the compressor goes on and off maybe every 5 minutes while the AC or Defrost is on. It compresses until enough pressure builds up and then cuts off until it needs to be built back up.

Now, if you have having a miss, that is different. I get a miss every now and then, but it recovers pretty quickly. I've figured that it's the ECU trying to lean out the air fuel mixture until it's too lean.... it stumbles, then recovers. It's not often, but happens. Doing this would help fuel economy.

I don't believe the ecu is wiped by disconnecting the battery. Maybe in cars many many years ago.

    2017 Tacoma, Off road, 4 *4.
My issue. when in gear the vehicle vibrates, can feel it through the seat. RPM around 500 when the car is in gear, put the car into neutral and idle goes to around 800, vibration goes away.
This started after around 1000 miles, one day the car just started vibrating. Took it in once, they found nothing. At the dealership again, its driving me nuts, brand new vehicle and it feels like a junker with a miss fire. When under heavy acceleration the car run fines, at mid throttle I feel a hesitation again like the car has a misfire of something is holding back the transmission. My rpm does fluctuate a lot, a separate issue, like something is cycling on and off, not related to AC, as I have switched that off. This doesn't happened all the time, I notice when I'm parked and sitting in a parking lot for a while on the phone. The car starts idling all over the place up and down.

I have a 16 taco trd off road.
It has almost 13k miles on it...bought it used.
It's been a few weeks and I notice some of these same issues...parked w/AC on it idles from 1000 Ish down to half that with a sputter and shimmy through the truck...from reverse to forward there is the same with a lag in the shift time...at running I can sort of feel something coasting even throttle at 30.
It's odd and not sure what to do...
Carfax was clean...showed it had been checked with no issue.

Make sure you have the latest TSB for the transmission update to the ECU - some of this laggy shift time is helped though not completely solved for many with this update.

Check your truck for the stalling risk recall - high idle has been known to be affected by the faulty crankshaft position sensor which feeds RPM data to the computer. If you have a 2016, I'd probably look up the part number on here (look for stalling risk recall threads).

those are the first 2 things you should check, then come back to the forum with your results once done.

Edit: To be clear it isn't really the sensor that's the problem, but the rotor it reads from was coated on some vehicles with too much coating which is believed to create static electricity which erodes the accuracy of the sensor over time... at least that's what toyota has told us... for now ;)

Just looked, I'm on the list for the CPS switch issue. Damn...just bought the truck...I didn't notice this when I test drove.
Looks like the bulliten came down 5 days before my purchase. What timing. Hopefully this is an easy fix.
    I'll ask about Diff too.
    Thanks

Great, if you're on the recall you'll probably see some solid improvements after the replacement. It's an easy job (can DIY in 10 mins) once the engine is cool enough to touch so the only delays would be for the dealer to get the part in. When you take it in make sure and ask them to update your transmission software to tsb-077-016 rev1 - tell them you have delayed shift from reverse to drive and busy shifting behavior and they shouldn't give you any issues.

Wouldn't be surprised if the prior owner dumped it because of these issues, but you should be able to get them resolved and have a pretty happy truck. congrats on the purchase

North of $3.00 in the San Francisco Bay area. Gas will be going up an additional .12 in a few month due to increase in state tax. Gotta Love CA.

Man that sucks. In South Alabama gas is $1.99 for the lowest grade which is 87

Tundra owners are suffering in CA. On a positive note, one can get a pretty good deal on a Tundra in CA.

Mine has 12k on it and it still does it. While in gear and stopped at a light you can see my hand vibrate while holding shift knob. I can also feel the vibration on the brake pedal and drivers seat. Toyota does nothing
