many bad initial thoughts on the new redesign, but i personally see a lot of potential given what Toyota has given us...

with the front baring many similarities to the 4Runner, aftermarket fronts shouldn't be too far behind...
    i.e. InSain Fab
    [IMG]

so those hating on the front, there will most likely be good options down the line to replace

yes it'll have a smaller engine, but it will actually have more HP...unfortunately less torque...but better MPG :p

i think people will also be happy when they hear about some of the other drive train changes...more on those late sunday/early monday

overall, it'll grow on you...i was a big fan of the Pickup and 1st gen, but i warmed up to the 2nd gen quickly...once we start to see these rolling around with bigger tires, armor, mud and scratches, i think the bickering will slow down and we'll warm up to the new addition...

    my $.02

Some quotes from the link provided:

"You’ll notice some sharper lines in the 3rd generation Toyota Tacoma and a focus on fuel efficiency. Although details have not been officially released, we know Toyota has made some big changes to the Tacoma power plant and accompanying drive train. No, we won’t be getting a diesel, but we will be seeing a slight uptick in horsepower and MPG".

"Toyota took some styling cues from their previously redesigned Tundra and 4Runner in the remolding of the Tacoma front and rear body. Tacoma will finally have a locking tailgate and its trailer plug recessed in the bumper by the license plate. The lower trim below the front bumper is removable, but is there with a purpose, fuel efficiency".

"As for options, the regular cab didn’t make the cut. Toyota will be offering an Access Cab with a six foot bed and a Double Cab with either a five or six foot bed. The TRD Off-Road package should be back for 2016, however, it does not appear Toyota will be offering any TRD Pro models in the first year".

"Should" is a weak word and makes one wonder however.

all signs and sources point to yes, but i will not say for certainty

It's looking like a Base model, Limited and Off-road

i haven't seen or heard anything about a Sport version which has me a little worried...

To be honest I used to think the second gen was ugly when it first came out.Wasn't until 2010 or so when I started to really like them and then the 12+ face lift had me sold. I know this will grow on me eventually but right now my first impression is it just looks bloated up front to me in some photos. My main impression won't come until I see interior shots and drive train specs.

I agree, everyone is talking about how they can't wait to see a Sport (and how it will look better), but everything I've read mentions SR5, Limited, and Off Road. I won't be surprised if the Sport is gone, which is too bad.

This years release is honestly the only release pics I've ever said "man I dunno not digging it". I've instantly liked something on all past years. I'm hoping to change my mind and really hoping to see the TRD and SR5 versions shown at Detroit on 12th

Im really excited for interior pics. If it's anything like the 5th gen 4Runner interior I'm going to really like it.

"Sizing appears to be very similar to the 2nd generation, so suspension components shouldn't be too far away either."

appears is an over-statement. the "cab" is identical. only the front and rear fascia changed. changing the power-train seems to justify the "3rd Gen" nomenclature rather than "restyle number 2" :(

without seeing dimensions, i can only say "appears"

to me the cab looks to be the same...just new body front and rear...

with the cab being the same...the F&R look to be similar proportions, so you can assume the frame will be very similar in dimensions...

    :fingerscrossed: for a boxed frame

but if the frame is comparable, then suspension mounts should be similar as well...

similar size also means weight will be similar...so spring rates should be comparable as well

so many signs point to a quick turnaround for the aftermarket fabricators and manufacturers

A side-by-side comparison with a 2015 would be the best way of comparing the old and new.

I'm waiting for the "all new" TRD SC for the 3rd Gen. God forbid people complain the TRD font is exactly like the last gen model

How is that too bad? I can't wait for the things like color matched mirrors and bumpers to be standard on the off-road. The color matching is the only thing that the Sport brought to the table worth while. If you want a fake scoop go drive on down to your local auto-parts store for a stick-on one.
