Are you sure of this? I'm still not experiencing any issues 2900kms after valve cover replacement. Could it be temporary? and would said "pinhole leak" cause other issues internally with out leaking from the sensor?

Yes I'm sure. Thread lock on the cam sensor bolts prevent this from happening too but it may only be a temporary fix. If oil was coming from the cam sensor, a valve cover gasket will not fix it. They probably put thread lock on the bolt at the same time.

Well for now they replaced the valve cover and gasket as wel as a new sensor. So well see.

Are you a tech or is this from your own experience with this?

Dropped my truck off for the second time in a month for leaking at the left side cam shaft sensor. Service called me today and told me Toyota knows of the issue and is recommending them to replace a cam shaft sensor cradle. Apparently there are 20 something on order in the US and Im on the list at #5.

Got mine back on Thursday morning but haven't driven it much just errands around town and mine is bone dry,we'll see on my commute to work that's when I noticed it last time.Ran into a tech yesterday and explained my problem and he said it's a 3 step process to fix it,cam sensor first then thread lock bolts second and final fix is replace cam journal and valve cover.Well see how long before I'm back

It was just a casting problem with some of the early 16s at least it seems.

Mine has been smelling like oil gas been burning since the first miles, found this thread and dropped her off Thursday. 3 hr turnaround with a new sensor and within 30 miles had more oil leaking.

I called the service manager and she was quite apologetic and willing to listen to information gleaned from this thread and she said she would order the parts listed somewhere in here.

Dropped her again this morning and was given a loaner and now just waiting to see if they go for the bandaid fix or go for the home run...fingers crossed!

I've had this problem for a while on my 2016. After long haul highway trips I've noticed an extremely slow oil leak and film of oil developing below only one of the cam position sensors on driver's side bank. Already brought it to Toyota's attention twice and they haven't done anything to mitigate it but put a tracer dye in and tell me at a follow up appointment that it wasn't a problem. Eventually when I have more time and get annoyed enough by it I'll actually grill them on it. Hopefully Toyota hashes out a complete fix for this and actually contacts owners about it.

The tech told me today that Toyota has put out a fix for it. Involves replacing the Cam Cradle, and the tech made it sound like it was a bit of work. Not happy with having my brand new engine disassembled after a month of use. Going to see about extending my warranty since its never a good thing to break all the factory seals at 900 miles.

Rein, thanks for the info. Would you guys recommend I just call Toyota corporate directly and get them to force my dealer to replace the cam cradle and all?

I called corporate after the initial fix failed and started leaking oil again just so I can get a case number (success) and attempt to get a truck rental, which failed. Going to have to go back tomorrow to turn in my rental truck for a Camry...

Man that blows. Hopefully they finally fix it. Makes me wonder if we're gonna see this at other cam position sensors or if it is just this driver's side casting for the cam cradle that is messed up. I'm also apprehensive about tearing open my engine with barely 15k on the clock. Is there a TSB out for this yet?

I called the dealer today and they said they are replacing the valve cover and the plenum underneath it. I asked the ASM about any cam cradle fix information and he stated he didnt know of anything. I also called corporate and described the problem and they were not able to find anything in their system about the cam shaft oil leak either. I guess I will pick it up tomorrow and keep an eye on the engine and this thread for any applicable information. I did get a case number and the rep said she would let me know if anything comes down from their end.

Those of you that have heard Toyota has a fix, do you have any paperwork or information to bring to the dealer or is it just word of mouth at this point?

I am still waiting on parts, and they are replacing the cam cradle on mine, I was told it should be in on the first of November and will take 2 or 3 days to complete. Since BadChicken is a Master Tech, answer me this; Is this the fix it forever "fix" for this, or is this just another shot in the dark on a design flaw that they are not quite sure yet what to do about? As far as a bit of oil sweating is concerned...., I am sorry, but that is unacceptable on a brand new engine. Do you think a Lexus owner would accept that?, I sure don't. And why did they design an engine in this way, where it is so very touchy where leaks are concerned.
This will be my 3rd time in the shop for this one thing, and if they don't fix it for good, I will be calling corporate and having a good old fashioned parlay, as I have to assume that the corporate FST knows full well what is going on, as this is what my dealership told me, so if that is the case, then the corporate front office had better know.
If they get a whiff of lemon law cake, it might rattle their memories. This is getting old real quick.

Jesus first of November? My Tech told me "hopefully" this week he could get the part. How long has your vehicle been at the dealer?
