Checked out the diesel over the weekend but did not have the opportunity to drive it. Much as I would love better MPG and more torque, my initial impression was the inside of the truck looked pretty hokey compared to the Taco and the paint under the hood looked chincy.
Also to note, the diesel is only offered in the 4 door version.

The buyers of a diesel Colorado would have to be as high as the residents of its namesake to waste money on this thing. Maybe it gets good MPG, but that is offset by a lot of negatives. The fuel costs more, the engine costs more, you have to buy blue dyed cow pee in addition to the fuel, modern emissions additives like the DPF and EGR have been consistently troublesome for late model diesels.

Im still trying to decide between a 3rd gen taco and a colorado.

As far as aesthetics go, i think the colorado shortbed looks good and the taco LB looks good. (Talking 4 doors here folks, ill never make the 2 seater mistake again...)

Also, it should be noted that there is a reason american made trucks are the best selling in the world, even if thats not true for the mid sized segment...

My silverado has some really stupid electrical problems but the engine is strong and she's mechanically sound, no matter how often the message center says otherwise...

Well, I would recommend buying the Taco, though I would wait a little to see if there are any improvements to be offered in 2017 or 2018. You can't go wrong with its high resale value and longevity. I guess the deciding factor may just be whether you want a short or long bed. Though I personally like the DCSB on the taco.

Yeh in currently leaning toward te taco for three reasons...
    1. Long bed
    2. Resale value
    3. I have loved the taco since as long as i can remember liking trucks (born in 91)

The only thing that is eating away at me about it is the whole "buy american" thing right now...kills me to recognize myself as a hypocrite

What could be more American than a Texas built Taco. And they didn't subvert the rule of law with an illegitimate bankruptcy that stole billions of dollars from secured bondholders, because they build a product people actually want to buy.

Thats actually a really good point. However i dont blame the automakers as much as i blame to politicians.

As for the texas made comment, doesn anyone watching this thread know where we can find quantifiable data on % of tacos made in texas va mexico?

Last time i checked tacos were a mexican thing:tumbleweed:

I bought a 2010 GMC Sierra breand new with 3 miles on it. I enjoyed it for about the first 20k miles when my torque converter failed. At 25000 miles the exhaust fell off. I paid it off at 38k and traded it in for my Tacoma. I got shit of owing a worthless pile of crap. I have always owned gm but im pretty sure im over the bowtie.

An extended cab version is offered for "fleet buyers only". If you wanted an extended cab version you could get one fairly easily.

If the ZR2 was real and priced well it would draw me back in for a test drive. Other than that I've drove the new Colorado a few times when the wife and I were looking for a new truck and it didn't impress me. It wasn't a bad truck, don't get me wrong, but it didn't wow me away from the Tacoma either.

To be honest the ZR2 would be more capable stock, just going off it's configuration, than the TRD Pro. Not by a ton but my a little for sure.

In other news I saw a DCLB Colorado today in yellow... :puke:

So what you're saying is one can get the diesel engine in an extended cab if you are a "Fleet Buyer" ( which is what ?)

Fleet buyer is a business. But you can buy a private vehicle from the fleet sales at some dealers. The fact is that extended cab diesel colorados will be at dealers but they probably won't be advertised.

If you really wanted one then you could get one. Personally I would prefer a steel wheeled 4x4 little diesel with some power options. No need for those heavy and loaded models.

the resale value of the two is a projected 1.5% difference. which in the long run is about 1,000 dollars. that is made up by the better mpg over time easily. Even the horrible gen 1 twins are holding their value well.

    http://www.kbb.com/new-cars/best-resale-value-awards/best-resale-mid-size-pickup-truck/

Get the truck that fits your needs. dont be brand loyal. Both have their ups and downs. competition means better product....

Those are good reasons, now as far as buying American goes, I remember when I purchased my '06 Tundra, I was iffy about buying an import, given that all the vehicles I've owned in the past were domestic brands. I've never regretted my purchase and still own it with almost 160,000 miles on it. This is really your decision, what would be your reasons for the Colorado? Sometimes listing your needs and comparing both vehicles side by side will help you make an informed decision.

Honestly I think the single biggest problem I have with the Colorado is the 4WD. #1: The selector knob is down by the headlight knob, so you can't see it, and it's very easy to mistake the two and turn the wrong one. Also people have complained about bumping it with their knees on the way in and out of the truck. #2: There is no indicator on the dash that tells you whether or not you are in 4WD. A message pops up and tells you it's engaged, but then disappears. I can foresee a lot of people putting a lot of excess wear on the drive train, because they didn't notice they were in 4WD.
