2016 tacoma vleds v3 triton switchbacks issue

Hey I am new to tacomaworld forum. So far I have no complaints about the new tacoma and I love it since its my first truck i have ever owned.

2016 tacoma trd off road edition.

I have realized only the SR models have the drl turn signals and all the other models have the led lights under the headlight instead. So I went ahead and bought the V3 triton switchbacks from vleds with the DRL option as well to have them run with the led lights.

The drl adaption plugs into the fuse box. I ordered a low profile fuse to replace the drl fuse. In addition to the plug in from the drl hookup, there are two empty fuse ports where you add the drl fuse and another 10a fuse or whatever you choose. When I do that, the drl v3's turn on automatically but never go off when I turn off the engine and lock my truck like normally. I plugged it in the fog light spot, added the drl 10a fuse and the foglight 15 fuse, same thing but the drl leds under the headlight dont come on. vleds customer service was very helpful and was patient but dont understand whats causing this issue. Can anyone help or have an idea or been through this problem before?

 

update: Messed around with it again and found out even taking out the 10a drl fuse, the drl leds under the headlight still run so now im confused on which fuse thats powering them...

 

I installed my V3 switchbacks without tapping into any fuse box power. Everything was done off the factory wiring from behind the headlights. I think you are tapping off a constant power source(which is why they stay on even after the key is off). Or The are back feeding into your OEM DRL's.

 

So the fuse i was tapping into had constant power along with alot of other fuses except for the headlamp fuse. i plugged in the v3 fuse connector, added the 10a fuse from it and another 10a to power the v3 drls and it works fine only when the headlamps are on. Once i find the drl fuse thats connected to the stock led drl's, hopefully it would work the way they should.

i have an sr and just installed led daytime running lights. they are switchbacks from superbrightleds.com. at first they were still amber when drl were switched on and white when headlights were on. i bent the pins on the bulbs in opposite directions and now when i switch to drl they are white but when headlights are on they are off.

 

^ Your SR has different wiring. There are THREE wires present on your Turn signal socket. Ground, DRL power, TURN signal power.
On any other model (sport, OR, Limited) there are only TWO wires on the socket, GROUND and TURN. Hence, why you have to run a separate wire to power the DRL feature.

 

Just installed bulbs. Didn't have to run or tap into any wires. I can turn the drl on or off from inside the cab
