    Hello,

For context, I bought my 2016 used a year and a half ago and I pretty much always drive it with the JBL turned up.

Last week I was driving on the highway with my fatter and the stereo was off. At around 65-70 miles an hour, in certain directions (Cross wind?) I was getting a whistling noise coming off what seemed to be the driver side roof at the corner where the windshield meets the body.

Has anyone else noticed this? Did Toyota fail to test for this? Are there any remedies?

    Thanks!

Are you sure your windows were rolled up the whole way? Either way, your truck is fine.

    LOL,

Yes, I made sure the widows were rolled up.

I am not concerned that it is causing damage to the truck, but I would say that it qualifies as what my father would call "piss poor engineering"

Be nice to your mother in law.

Is the whistle more like blowing across a jug, like a kazoo, or like a ref whistle?

    LOL.

    Good advice! And, good question.

It's more like blowing across a jug. It is more of a whooooo than a wheeeee

Do you have a roof rack? That maybe has a gap in it somewhere where it should be flush?

There's plastic plugs that fill holes in the lower control arm that can contribute to that same type of noise. I believe there is even a technical service bulletin for them. Check to see if yours are installed.

Someone said that same thing about roof racks and wrote it off as "road noise" But seriously, don't manufactures think about and test for this ?

Like I said, the stereo is usually so loud I would not notice.

Example, if I leave coins in the door handle pocket, the bass makes them vibrate. I am totally okay with that. That is JBL noise. I just move the coins to the center console. :)

@ mrhappyface, if it did this at parking lot speeds? I would lose my shit and change / remove the racks.

Or the correct plugs. Tape will help narrow down the sound tho.

On early models its the window seal. Mine does it a couple times a year when high cross winds are present. It's as described like a jug band.

    desmodue,

How dd you narrow it down? Have you checked the control arm plugs? And, have you replaced the windows seal?

In this instance, the sound was there when traveling south. Not nearly as much going back north on same highway, but a little. Onshore (east) both directions.
