dont know how U bought a wrecked salvaged taco

    1st question = ‘ does it run ‘

the wreck could have done damage to engine

remove All plugs label keep n order

use breaker bar with socket front to see if engine will turn over

I noticed in your pictures of the truck you do not have a battery in it. Have you tried installing one?

A multimeter and wiring diagrams will help you. FD and wrecker companies will sometimes cut battery cables depending on how bad the crash was.

Road Dog, did that and Engine does turn, i know man i did a terrible decision for trying to save some bucks a 3rd gen taco has been my dream truck since it got out to the market, they are crazy expensive though so thats why i did the gamble, but now i am trying to see if i can make it alive again! is a 4x4 90k miles.

Slowtacotruck, that pic is old, i already purchased a brand new battery and install it, wiring diagrams i will research on that, great idea, batteru cables are good too.

Man, this is a tough one to web diagnose with that amount of damage! I too am rooting for you OP and hope you can bring this injured truck back to life. I am betting it will be something relatively minor that is keeping it from turning over, but the challenge as you quickly determined is figuring out what the heck is keeping you from getting power to that start motor!

I don't think this was a terrible decision, at least not yet. The problem is most likely something small if the engine turns over. IMO checking for voltage at the starter is not helpful unless you know which ECU pins/relays/etc. are going to it. Too many variables.

The first thing I would do is lookup a fuse diagram to see what is connected to which fuses. Most things share a fuse, so try and see if anything else isn't working. This would be more beneficial than just checking fuses since a grounding strap might be damaged. Failing that, I would test the ignition switch and then try and find what gets energized when the car is in the start position. I would assume these newer cars would prevent cranking if certain parts aren't getting power (but this is an assumption).

Wiring diagrams for newer cars are a bit hard to find, especially in a simplistic format. TechStream might be able to help, as it would tell you which parts are getting power and if there are any hidden codes or issues (such as some sort of collusion safety feature).

Who was the seller? Insurance company? If not please check and make sure no critical part are taken. If you can get it running, its not a bad deal for $8400. Another interesting observation, why the front airbags didn't deployed

    This right here.

I’ve changed hundreds of parts/ components in Aircraft and 1/2 of those probably came in bad from supply. So test power to everything before you start chasing down a new rabbit hole when it can be right in front of you.

Thank you so much guys for all of your helpfull comments, We got the truck running now and it runs like a charm! it was only the ground cable was not doing contact with the starter relay, can you believe that oh my goodness, but oh well, not bad for being a newby! im glad things are working out good, right now is in the shop getting all the new body parts installed and painting, i will keep you posted with the revival of the Taco.

Glad you got it running! enjoy your new truck.

I did a similar project a year ago. Turned out great. Congrats on the truck and getting it started.

    Glad it is now running.

1- I would not take it back to the mechanic who replaced the starter. Part of that job should be verification that starter works when installed and they should have found any grounding issue.

2- That is a lot of Money to have in a vehicle with that many miles. Is labor to rebuild it included in your total? I am always amazed at the value for these Tacos. I figure with 100K gone value of pristine truck would be less than 65% of new cost. Probably why I bought new.

be sure to post when completed!!

Woow thats a nice truck! is it the TRD or the SR5? how much do you have invested on it now? and how much you got it for? IT becomes an addiction on buying more and more parts for it right? >_<

Glad you got it running, sounds like it just took some good ol trouble shooting and skill. electrical gremlins are often difficult to judge without checking over everything and building a mental picture.... people saying they did this or that can lead you down the wrong path because they didn't acutally do that...sounds like it was a free fix, shame you had to buy parts to fix something that could have been caught with a $9 cheapo multimeter
