Got my 2016 tacoma a few months ago, and after a solid first month my Tacoma wont start. It started by stalling or loosing power while driving, then shutting off after a stop sign or red light, now it wont start. Serious electrical problem that I can’t figure out. Brought it to a mechanic and he can’t figure it out. If anybody has had a similar issue please feel free to help me out.

There is a recall for the crank position sensor, IIRC. Has it been done?

    Mileage?. Carfax or any history?

While both posts above are good ones, I'd also suggest a new mechanic.

Give more detail on 'won't start'. We understand it won't run, but what does it do when you're attempting to start it.

That is exactly what my 19 did during the whole fuel pump ordeal. Mine actually began to fail while we were all waiting for the recall to take effect and stalled once or twice. I’d start there especially considering they are a known problem.

Fuel, air, spark. Check if you have fuel pressure at the rail. Check if you are getting spark. Check if you have any air intake leaks. I will second the question on what do you mean by it will not start. Does it crank but not start? If crank sensor you can read if the sensor is working via a scan tool. Does it have any faults in the ECU?

^^This. For a guy to just throw up his hands and say he doesn't know really does not bode well for long term confidence in his mechanical or customer service skills. If he can't fix it, suggest a solution....and don't take him anything more complicated than basic maintenance items.

This was my first thought, and I believe the new sensor is noted by the 2 dashes on the sensor. If so then it is the updated sensor.

I’ve checked the vin and all the recalls, nothing on the fuel pump.

For sure. Wasn’t very pleased with a mechanic telling me he couldn’t find it. I have the push start, once I push it I get one singular click and nothing else. Doesn’t turnover or sever clicking. Just one singular clicking.

If you could, check your recall and see what year models it was for becauseine says nothing about it.

Im not sure on how to check for air, fuel and spark but I will try and look into it. No check engine light has popped on the truck. Used a scanner and nothing.

Sure sounds like battery to me. I took delivery in January 2017. In June of this year my original battery failed with the exact symptom you have. One click, no crank, no start. Mine is pushbutton start also.

Sounds more like battery to me as well. Only other thing I can think of is a bad connection at a battery terminal or ground.

Yeah. The "stalling or losing power" referred to in the initial post is a separate problem.
