He'll drive it around town for a week and probably like it, but he really won't know until he takes it on a road trip. The real question is, what will he trade the 4Runner in for if it doesn't pass the road trip test?!

    I make a

I had a 2012 Tacoma 4.0. 4x4 6 speed that would consistently get 19-20 mpg on a road trip averaging 75-80 mph and rarely ever needing to downshift from 6th gear for 1900 miles.

My current pos is a 2016 double cab limited automatic , on that same trip I averaged 16-17 mpg going the same speed . Not to mention that the transmission shifted several thousand times in 1900 miles .
If they would have made the tacomas with the 4.0 from the 4 runner it would have been a lot better choice

So you complain about being lied to because you couldn't get up to 24 mpg but your average speed for road trips is 75-80 mph?

Hate to tell you this but......

Considering that the '12 got 19-20 doing the same speeds I would expect to get at least the same out of the '16
Not to mention the speed limit is between 75 and 80 for most of that trip

Doesn't matter what the speed limit is on your trips, those aren't the speeds used by manufacturers to calculate MPG on their vehicles.

3rd Gen, SR-5, AC, 4x4, 4cyl, 1k miles and so far so good. It replaced my 2011 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X and I'm all good. Nissan can keep their 16mph V-6.

I'm sure you mean MPG. But it was fun to drive right? If I babied mine I could get close to 300 miles on a full tank, I'm talking really babying, that maybe happened once, I usually beat the balls off of it.

Still here. He began a thread yesterday, about whether to order a Sport or TRD SR5.

I was going to tag BlueT and mention how he doesn't have to bash the gen 3 anymore since a new crop of haters has emerged. He did not show up when I went to tag him so I am guessing he was banned?

I've had my 16 4Runner for 1500 miles now and I'm only averaging 17.7 MPGs on stock size tires.

After 1 1/2 month of ownership and 2000 miles I'm averaging about 22 mpg. I just added my Ballistic Off Road wheels yesterday and needless to say I'm satisfied. She's a keeper!

I'm willing to sacrifice the fuel mileage to get away from the 3.5 . I expect to get
16-18 on average. I've put quite a bit of miles on a friends 4RUNNER and have averaged 19 But it's an sr5 with smaller tires than my trd pro will have
