If my rear window clip breaks again I'm gonna file for lemon. It broke twice already.

I'd take that bet if we were in the same state. Maybe not the identical cap, but I guarantee you I'd find something that works - maybe better than OEM.

Don't underestimate the things you can find at a well-stocked ACE Hardware. When I lost one of the plastic plugs in my tailgate extender I found one that fit perfectly.

Think of it as a plastic cap with a square hole in the middle to engage the hydrolic damper on the body side with a double clip to hold the hinge on the tailgate with a male to lock into the peg

But that is the problem, with these dealerships they do not really care about the customer! I find it hard to believe any dealership would take a part off a new lot vehicle and put it on a customer vehicle. The Op should not have to go to three different dealerships to find a part number. Anybody that lives in the real world knows toyota is not going to replace a whole tailgate because of one small broken part, but it is the dealerships responsibility to order the right part in whether it is part of an assembly to fix something that is on warranty!

The garnish I received in this morning is not what you are looking for as well. Would you like me to email you a return label to ship back those hinges or have FedEx come pick up those parts?

    From online place.

Try calling in and ordering one of these cap/garnish guys. You're gonna need it some day and find out they can't order you one because there's no part number. I believed it broke because I forced the tailgate closed a few times. It's like a $5-10 part takes seconds to replace but sucks to be without. I'm gonna get extras after they fix mine.

Why were you forcing the tailgate closed? Was that tensioner working against you, or was your bed too full of stuff?

One too many bucket. That's the only thing I can think of that could've caused it to break.

Hey, for $100 I'll reverse engineer one by using the part on my truck and 3D print you a replacement. I'll even throw in a spare for free. I'm not kidding.

    Thanks @aliu6294

Just fyi.. from my testing I found that FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D prints will not hold in this application. This is why I made mine available on Shapeways. When you purchase their Strong / Flexible plastic, its made through a laser sintering process where the bond is similar to casting. FDM printing is what most consumer level 3D printers use, its great for most things but not for higher stress applications.

If you feel like experimenting and have some extra cash, you can get this bushing printed in a variety of metals too.

Anyone who buys these, please provide me some feedback and let me know how they hold up. I'm tooling up for molding in my garage this week and if needed in the future I can remake these bushings in a different material.
