Slightly related, after a year my tailgate seems to be dropping faster. It doesn't slam, but it's not as slow and damped as before. Is the rotary damper built into the right side "hinge" (socket) fixed to the frame, or is it a separate part?

 

Its on the right side, a separate assembly bolted into the frame. You can only access it from underneath the bumper.

 

3 year thread revival! My dads 2016 Tacoma’s dampener cracked. His truck was manufactured in Sept 2015. Any word if this part number is still not available?

 

Wondering the exact same thing. Mine just broke this week as well. Built October 2015, bought in Dec 15. Got 3 years out of it but that's still pretty terrible.
