So what's the chance that the new tailgate will easily swap out with 2nd gen tailgate? Locking, easy-down and embossed "TACOMA" would be nice.

Think the locking tailgate is controlled by the key fob as well?

The profile is different. The 2016 has a "spoiler" at the top that will not line up with the 2nd gen bed sides.

The tail gate seems to be a bit taller on the 3rd gen.

So are we actually classifying this as a third gen now? Same cab with a couple of outside changes. Not a full redesign.

What do you classify as a redesign? There are 0 panels that are the same on the exterior as the last gen and the interior is completely different, along with a different engine. Obviously the DC was going to have 4 doors, a windshield and a rear window. If you look at them side by side there are differences in the cab also, but the shape is similar as is every other 4 door truck made by any mfg.

It is the same cab. Different grill and such but still the same truck.

You can't prove that. Yes, it looks the same but the measurements of the new truck aren't out yet.

Is it similar? Yes, but is it the same, I don't think so but obviously can't be sure. It is a truck, of course it would be similar looking, what were you expecting?

    Tailgate, just think about it.

When you think you're done, think again. Then think,

    Tailgate.

    And repeat.

Your point the bottom 2 look exactly the same. Inside the doors might be different but outside the same

My point is that I completely agree with the two of you, same cab same truck. The difference between gen 1 and gen 2 are substantial and what I was hoping for.

Key word (car). Haven't seen a fob activated tailgate yet on any truck. Shit if I get that lazy better take me out to desert Breaking Bad style. :)

There wasn't a need (or desire) to increase the truck's size like there was when they went from the 1st gen to the 2nd. So unless the 3rd gen was to be the size of a current Tundra that wasn't going to happen.
