Any thoughts? Anyone have access to a 2016 next to a 2015 to see if the roofline can handle it? I'm wondering if we can use the 16 third brake lamps gaining the cargo lamps on a 2nd gen Tacoma.

    What do you think?

There are some side by side pics posted in the 3rd gen section that might help.

I was looking at this myself. I believe the roofline is identical so I don't see why this wouldn't work.

Yeah Rock, I'll just hop online, buy something and be your damn guinea pig.
Thanks for the constructive post. Adding to your post count?

And pics are great, but if there is someone with access to both side by side, say a Toyota Tech or a person that has a 2016 and a friend with a 2015 or even has access to a dealership with a 2016 on the lot would give better, more accurate info. No '16s on the lot near me.

I saw the Colorado light mod, but if this is basically plug and play, just running the cargo lamps to a switch and whatnot... As I recall, the Colorado mod required cutting into the roof and flipping the lamp upside down. I'm in a lease, so cutting the roof isn't an option for me.

I was thinking that we might be able to use the 3rd gen light as well. Roofline does look the same, we need a more head on picture of it so we can determine if it will mount up to the 2nd gen roof or not.

Hard to tell if it has external screws on the 3rd gen. Might bolt from the inside of the truck.

Eyeballing Predator's pic tells me the 2016 light is too wide. I think we are SOL.

it does look longer in that pic. However, I'm curious to see if it's just the lens that is longer, but maybe the screws/bolts are in the same spot as the 2nd gen.

And, buying it to try it is not the only way to see. There are people on here that work for Toyota or have friends and contacts that do that could shed insight. There may also be people that have a 2nd and 3rd gen in the same household or circle of friends.

And you could help the community by buying one as well, or are you looking for someone else to do the work? Stupid of me to start this thread asking questions without going to the dealer, buying a part, and trying to modify it to fit my ride beforehand.

That's what I'm thinking, the lens footprint is larger to accommodate the cargo lamps but it might bolt on the same spot. If guys were installing the Colorado Tbl which is larger then our factory 2nd gen lamp, don't see why a larger 3rd gen lamp wouldn't work.

Allout, it's been a while since I read that Colorado lamp thread but I think I recall the guy used his dremel to cut the roof metal to accommodate. Maybe if it's a matter of drilling holes for screws... But I cannot see myself whipping out my dremel to cut w hole. Though, if I did, it's nice to have that bed outlet!

I'd bet it fits. Looks like just the lens is bigger not the actual hole. I can see or kinda see an outline.

One thing I'd like to have is bed lights.

Nice, might have to put this on my list. We need a '16 to '15 parts thread now. :)

To accommodate for the lights coming out of the back of the housing, I'll bet a large sum of money that a hole has to be cut out. Now, how much is up to whomever does the work. It's not going to be a plug and play kinda thing. Cutting and wiring are going to be necessary.

    I retract this.

That's a lot of overhang to not have a larger hole.
