2016 Totaled, what has improved since in the 2020s

So I totaled my 2016 inferno sport Wednesday as I lost traction on the interstate around a snowy bend and hit the jersey wall a few times. Even having been in numerous motorcycle accidents, it was still the most traumatizing thing I've experienced in a while. But to top it off, I have lost my baby. It was my first ever new vehicle that I still struggled with as it was against my "frugal" ways but brought me so much joy to see/use every day. Now I'm stuck with the decision; do I want to get another new Tacoma and be back at square one or get a used one that someone has messed with before? Or get a different vehicle altogether?

I did go and test drive some new one but the colors aren't as appealing to me. I did like the power seats, power rear window, and parking camera/system going on. Did they ever improve the Qi charging system or is that still the same as I hacked up my old one and used a jerry-rigged Samsung charger.

 

Same basic truck. The only things that changed are things that have absolutely nothing to do with the fundamentals of off road utility. Like a glowing strip in the headlights, seats that adjust with a button. Maybe some other mundane infotainment minutae...don’t quote me because I never pay attention to that Karen-ass bullshit.

Removed gopro mount
Removed driver side bed cubby
In 2020
Added android auto/CarPlay
Added driver side power seats
New rims on all TRD models (not sure about lower trims)

I think those are the highlights, probably a few other minor changes like they removed the shelf in the glovebox and maybe a few other odds and ends

 

Useless? How am I supposed to visit the dealer more often without more things that can go wrong?

 

Basically this. They did add the passenger side clips to keep the floor mat from sliding around (no idea why that wasn't there from the beginning). Oh, the 2020s have the smart key door handle on the passenger side now. You can also get 360 cameras on the 2020s, if you care about that sort of thing.

 

more shit added to fail and go busted. And the price tag has improved - mostly in favor of Toyota! Oh, and the tires and made from newer composite materials that still wear out too soon! The rest is still all good!

Edit: Forgot to add all the "safety features" that have been added - why is it that adding safety features causes insurance rates to go up? The vehicle is suppose to be safer, and it is, but the cost to re-calibrate, repair or replace these parts is more expensive. Honestly I'm glad my '16 does not have all the new safety features.

Seems like with all the new tech bs might be better to get used if you can get it for a good price.
