I bought my 2016 SR5 earlier this year and I'm unsure if it has the towing package. What's the best way to see if it has it or not?

No, there's no sticker or badging of any kind even for the trim level and engine size.

Crawl up under your truck, pull out your smart phone. Go to the toyota owners app, and see if it is in your specifications

You can get up under the truck if you want, but it's just for exercise. The app gives factory and port installed options for the trucks

When you bought was it new? If so was there a window sticker that said what the truck is? This is needed in some states to register.

And the obvious, does it have a hitch receiver? Does it have the spot to plug in the trailer wiring? Granted these things don't guarantee it has the package, but without you know you don't.

In my opinion it's worth it for the tranny cooler.Even if you aren't towing..

Plus the other stuff that comes with the pkg. It was the ONLY option I wanted Toyota to put on my truck.

As mentioned above, I also wouldn't depend on seeing just a tow hitch and wiring on the rear of the truck - the only way to tell if you got the OEM Tow Package, or just a "Tow Package" is to look at the radiator up front- if your truck is a AT, does it have AT, engine oil and power steering oil coolers installed on the front of the radiator? MTs with tow packages don't have a tranny cooler, but both have power steering and engine oil coolers, 130 amp alternator, are prewired with an in-cab trailer brake controller wiring harness, and have electronic sway control. It's worth the extra $650 whether you pull a trailer or not. This is what the sticker shows with the tow package:

I used to have issues with getting exactly what I wanted, you know sales bull crap. I ordered my truck this time, and from this point forward I will get what I want, sacrifices will only happen for good chunks of money off.

"I was pissed off that I had to pay 650. for the tow package I didn't want or need."

Was it the 650 or the hitch hanging below?

I thought a V6 Tow pkg was a no choice option on better models TRD's, Pro, Limited's.

Which is BS, (should be include in price) but I did want it and like the other things it brought along, esp. the coolers, and alternator.

Most dealers order the TRD and upper trims with the tow package installed because most people want it, but it can definitely be ordered without the tow package if that's what you want. But my .02 says the extra coolers are worth the cost and should help extend the life of your truck, not to mention having the option to pull a trailer etc.

The $650 spent on a tow package now will make it a lot easier to sell and add a lot more than $650 to it's value down the road.

I read that the 2018 models will have the tow package standard on V6 models like they do in Canada.

Agree with this entirely! For $650 it is well worth it. Takes the towing capacity from 3,500 lbs to 6,500 lbs.
