I just recently purchased a 2016 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 2wd and I really really like the truck. My only concern is when I have to go offroad and how it will do. My first truck was a Chevy 2wd and it managed to get through the snow fine w/sandbags. I traded my 2013 Toyota Tundra Crewmax RW 4x4 for my new Tacoma. It was hard to do but I had to downsize my payment. I rarely go offloading but I have always like the idea of having 4 wheel drive. In the last year between all of my trucks I have used 4x4 minimally. My last outing in my Tundra I never used my 4 wheel drive out in Ocotillo desert. I like the peace of mind of 4x4. What are your experiences offroading a 2wd Taco. I live in Southern California.

Not even factoring in snow, there have been many times I would have out of luck in 2WD and I barely even take my truck off road. The one I remember most was pulling off the side of a dirt road into a clearing they were logging. I had a ton of bugs caught in the wiper blades and I wanted to clear them off. Got out of the truck and the ground felt a little soft, but not enough for me to think twice. Went to move and I sunk immediately. 4 Hi pulled me right out. 1 AM, no cell service, didn't expect the ground to be like that.

Other times mostly include backing trailers up steeper hills on dirt or grass.

If you were really worried about getting stuck, be prepared. Carry a shovel, tree saw, and some traction boards. Maybe install a winch bumper and a 10K synthetic line winch. Even with 2WD you can get yourself out of most jams with those items out on the trail.

Personally I will never buy another 2 wheel drive truck. It is better to have 4 wheel drive and not needed then to need it and not have it.

I'd like to see a 2wd wheel with me. For all those people who think they are the same.

I was stopped here. Door was open so I could talk to the guy taking pics.

Got a lot of stuff lol
If you pick your lines right and have good tires 2wd is pretty capable

If you want to get the best out of both back tires a good lsd or a locker would help
