The problem with your posts is that you have ZERO direct experience.

I like Smitty because he does own the truck and is not apologetic about his experiences. While he may not rub everyone the right way, he does have actual experience with the truck and I do think his feedback is necessary.

I'd like to think that if Toyota built a truck that can satisfy smitty, then it will satisfy 99.99% of all buyers.

Damn you're thick... Wanna call someone out; PM them. Thread jackers suck.

Contribute to the topic at hand here in someway or move along, don't start a pissing match with someone about something completely unrelated to the thread.

Most people would go straight to the dealer if they had issues instead of going to a forum especially if they think the warranty will help.

Does a test drive count for 1%?

No. Test driving, and ownership after several thousand miles is very different.

She went to her dealer. My valid point is that many people join this forum to post about a problem they have which means the membership on this forum is skewed towards problems people.

Not in my case!!! The issues I had (albeit minor) I learned about on TW: The rear door seal protruding out at the top, the low transmission fluid (1 qt. low but was actually shifting fine), the TSB on the "plugs", the TSB on the transmission calibration, and finally the recent replacement of a front bushing that was "squeaking" like crazy at low speeds.. The dealer fixed/did all these without question, but I probably wouldn't even been aware of them (with the exception of the squeaking front end) without TW bringing them to my attention. My truck is as it should be now, IMO, and I hope I don't experience the computer or sensor failure that started this thread. But, if so, at least I was aware of it from this forum. I'm sure only a small % of 3gen owners are members or visitors to TW and I assume most people would just accept minor issues that come with any new car/truck unless they are "anal" (and I put myself in that group) like many of us are that utilize the forum. Otherwise, we would just "drive on..." A friend of mine has a Dodge Ram p/u. He told me his truck was leaking water into the cab. I asked him how he knew that and he said, "after a recent hard rain I opened the door and water ran out." No forum there....

You have proof for this where? Stats? Data? Or just speculation?

Agreed. Should get back to the OP's original concern. If you don't have anything to offer to solve her problem then don't post here (and that includes me)

For a major problem like this (total failure), would a modern vehicle not show some sort of ODB-II code?

It didn't show it on either Mazdas at first failure... eventually though it started throwing codes for erratic idle, misfire and finally did throw a CPS specific.

Not sure if the computer throws codes on itself. I'm not familiar enough with the programming to know what kind of self-tests are done when ROM loads. If the issued cleared when memory was reset and everything booted normally after that, it might not throw any codes. We had some UHF sat radios that were like that. Annoying as shit to troubleshoot.

When it's 110 outside, or even hotter on the inside of a vehicle children and adults die. Or better yet when their traffic and you are stuck on the road and have to have the car running and then it dies on you..

I challenge you to be stuck in your car when it's sunny and 100 outside. I can almost guarantee you will be suffering deeply after 5 to 10 minutes. I took the challenge when a number of poor excuses of humans left their children to suffer or die in their car here. It was 145 degrees interior temp in my tacoma. I tried for 10 minutes after i drank 32 oz of water and was light headed getting out and had enough. Each minute feels like an eternity.

If you are physically fit, it helps you. Children typically are not. Infants or toddlers do not regulate heat as well. Again do some research.

leave your dog in your truck during the summer for 10 minutes in Jax. See what happens. (sarcastically speaking).

Well since you ran around in a family car with zero AC in 100+ temps, look how well you turned out.....

Sorry, you're making generalizations and name calling and it isn't impressive. Get out of the car. Most people here in FL are smart enough to keep water somewhere in the vehicle, especially on trips and areas where you might take a while to be recovered or help. Learn a little planning. Within 5 mins of my vehicle breaking down, I could get my children out and in a safe place and put together some sort of shade for them to hang out and we have water/drinks if needed. This is no different than us being at the beach all day.

I DO agree on the toddlers and elderly comment. They are especially vulnerable and I didn't think about them. I apologize and you are correct. Between 5 and 60 should be just fine, though. :)

It is fatal to stay outside some parts of the year here.

I myself do plan. But you need to concern for the masses in which the majority do not.
