So does this mean that with all previous versions of the tune, that we were never seeing Otto cycle engine operation in 6th gear? What will the maximum throttle angle change be in 5th gear?

How about on flat roads going against a strong head wind like that? If 1.05 can stay out of 4th gear at 75-80 mph, that would be great.

Tropical storm type winds saw me in 6th but it was coming at an angle from the front right. It did change to 5th to keep the speed but with that strength wind it doesn't surprise me!

    It's MUCH better than previous.

So, I found a way to put 50-100 miles on the truck yesterday after flashing the latest 1.04. As others have said, not mind blowing, but this is how the truck should have felt from the factory. I didn't notice a big difference in throttle response, but it definitely feels "lighter", performs better in low RPMs, and is smarter about when to shift. Also, it has been 10 degrees colder the past 2 days then when i was running the original tune.

On thing I've seen posted by OV is that these trucks have 2 overdrives. Does that mean that they are geared to only have 4 significant gears and the other 2 are overdrives? Basically a hacked 4 speed? Because that would make sense. This truck is so anxious to get to 5th and 6th. It's incredibly annoying. My daily trips have a max speed limit of 45 and a constant flow of hills. There's no reason to shift above 4th. However, anytime I lift my foot off the pedal on a level surface or down slope, it goes to 5th and 6th very quickly and cruises at around 1000 rpm. Is it supposed to do that for MPG? Am I just too used to driving MTs (i've driven MTs my whole life)? Should I be driving in "S" to avoid this, or is that a hack for a tune that still needs improvement (1.05)?

All-in-all, if you're buying a 3rd gen, add $770 to the price of the truck to get what you expect from the factory.

Good to hear. Any hints as to throttle response, like when you need to pass someone? does it hold a gear and scoot or does it downshift then scoot?

You control this, slowly press the gas and it'll accelerate in gear, give it a stab and it'll change down. Don't expect much acceleration in 5th or 6th, it'll hold the gears and let you increase speed on a highway easily but they aren't any good for overtaking, as they're overdrive. Just getting this out there.

    Yes. MPGs.

My commute is 40 mph on a flat road for about 11 miles. I get like 28 MPG thanks to this!!

We go up to Denver to see the Rockies fairly often (live in ABQ), and twice I've been passed on the freeway by some guy going 80+ on the shoulder! All my years living in California, I never experienced that. What's with those Denver drivers?

So I know that I’ve seen this somewhere in the 1.5 million pages of this thread, but will ask anyway: I am currently using a laptop to flash my truck that I keep in my house and take out to flash. I now am wanting to keep something in the truck to log for custom updates, flash when lower octane fuel is only available (running 91 octane), etc.... What’s my cheapest best option?

And after the repeal you can use your 4WD more often with severely potholed freeways and no bridges. Should be fun to watch.

If you use S mode you can limit the shifting and ECT mode will raise the shift points. Matt will never be able to fix the poor gear spacing between fourth and fifth and sixth without tearing down the transmission and using a different fifth gear ratio.

Umm... yeah. So the roads and bridges are already in that state. We in Can’taffordia are running 4wd in our daily commute.

It’s not just the gas tax;it’s the big jump in vehicle registration to be repealed. About $580 to register a new Tacoma/yr..

I've been away from TW for several months and don't have the time to read all 1,300+ pages of this thread- I bought and tuned my truck back in April '18 (2017 auto). It is a little jumpy until it warms up. Is there a better version out there now? I still have my dongle but no longer have the computer I used to do the install. Can I use a different computer or was my unique code only good for that computer? Or is there a handheld device I can buy that will solve all of my problems? Although, I only have a macbook so I'll still have some problems.
