Unless you're in a major rush for 1.05, there's no need to run out
and get the TSB, it will be part of 1.05 when it drops.

    State of confusion, aka Flori-duh

Another perspective on the TSB question.
    Think about this scenario:
You do NOT get the TSB, and after tuning the truck you take it in for maintenance, separate TSB or recall. The dealer sees you are on the pre-TSB calibration and as a service to you applies said TSB. Now you must re-flash the truck, assuming of course that YOUR OVT calibration file for a truck without the TSB work fine for a truck WITH the calibration.

    OR:
You DO get the TSB, and after tuning the truck you take it in for maintenance, separate TSB or recall. The dealer sees you are on the TSB updated calibration and does the other work you needed leaving your ECU alone. Now you drive away happy with whatever you brought it in for done and the truck driving in the manner it was when it went in.

So my thought is why not get the TSB to make your life simpler. If you have the symptoms get it fixed by the dealer so that ONE issue has been removed from diagnosis of any possible future problem.

Okay I hope this is not going to cause more confusion.

    1. if your truck experiences any TSB related symptoms and you do not have the TSB - I recommend getting it done
    2. If you want the TSB because others have said it makes the truck run better - go for it. It will not affect your tune in the end
    3. If you are want the TSB but are waiting for us - go ahead and get the TSB done
    4. If you have issues related to the TSB but are waiting for us to release 1.05 instead rather than get the TSB - Get the TSB done.
    5. If you do not want the TSB, and do not have any issues, and want to get everything in 1.05 - wait for 1.05

So I fall into #2 and #3. I actually don't know if I am experiencing any of the issues because I don't know what to expect, and this truck (stock) drives worse than anything I've ever owned. It's also the first auto I've owned in decades. If anyone has tips on how to replicate the issues, please let me know. Anyway, I called the dealership about having the TSBs applied and the tech told me the only ECU TSB they are tracking is from 2016... ok... then he said I can bring it in but they need to confirm the issue before applying.

Also, are these all of the TSBs that we are referring to in this thread?

That's the challenge on these trucks. They drive so terribly off the lot that you don't know if it's normal operation or somethings broke.

If you have any doubt, get the TSB.

Thanks Mat. I'm going to try.

One more thing, rather than get the TSB, can't someone that already has it just send me the file to flash rather than do the dance with the dealership? Or maybe I'm missing something?

Despite what the TSB may or may not claim to be for...it's more than altitude. While I was not crazy about the TSB, it did have improved highway shifting (less dancing around gears while trying to maintain speed). I was not as impressed with the TSB as most...but putting 1.04R on top of te TSB stopped me hating my truck...now I just hate some things the eng/tran do instead of hating it all the time. :D I'm hoping 1.05 will put the kabosh on most of the rest of things I hate, but not expecting it to be a 100% miracle. As good as Mat has been, even he can't completely fix a hardware problem with a software solution.

Those are them. They both apply the same fix so either one you can get them to recreate, is good. One of them is for high altitudes... so lots have said they go into the high altitudes on the weekends (if you live in a flat place, like many of us).

Ive been pretty happy as well with 1.04R but I havent gone on any long trips yet. The bad part is the 7+ hours of interstate to get out of Texas. Im heading to NM tomorrow so it will get a good test all next week. Ill have my laptop and be waiting for that 1.05 :)

I'm in the foothills of South Carolina about 30 min from the continental divide and I take it into the mountains on the weekends, so I can definitely use that as an excuse to get it.

It wasnt hard to recreate the stumble condition for me even though i updated the truck myself. Floor it from a stop and if it stumbles, you did it. This was the scariest when turning left across oncoming traffic and it would hesitate and force me to soil myself lol

Remind me to never sit in your driver's seat if we ever find ourselves off-roading together.

This is exactly what I thought even before you posted this...but then again, I read every single one of your posts.

2016+ Toyota Tacoma V6 ECU Tuning Alpha Release

I have no doubt there are multiple 3rd Gen Tacoma drivers out there over the past 3 years who were making a left turn on some street somewhere that had a blind right hand curve coming the other way with someone going a bit too fast and the stumble on this truck contributed to an accident in this scenario...:(
