I wonder if it would be feasible to eventually run OV's turbo with cats still on the truck, for those of us who are interested in more power via FI as opposed to "max power achievable", if Mat's design even ends up allowing for that sort of setup. This is also assumes that stock or even "high flow cats" with associated piping aren't too restrictive... :notsure:

Ok but the same manufacturer also rate the "same"engine at 268.

Toyota rates the Camry at 306?.. I copy pasted the Camry tuned into the Tacoma and gained practically nothing at all.

Dump tubes can be done with a few hand tools and like 1 hour. I don't even use a jack.

Isn't it perfectly legal in almost all states to change the cat if the original one failed? Various companies make high flow cats that don't cost much.

It may have the same name (2GR-FKS) but that doesn’t mean it’s the exact same engine. Besides, tuning plays a massive role in estimated power. Also Toyota has a history of either sandbagging their numbers or inflating their numbers.

Not entirely what I was getting at though. If I'm not mistaken, OV is developing the kit with intent to be used without the cats. I could be wrong though. Point being, we don't know if high flow cats along with stock size piping would be too restrictive or if it's something that Mat is considering/allowing for during development

I know this isn't strictly the proper thread for this, but the talk about dump tubes reminded me that I'd been wondering

I just hope the kit is well buttoned together with close to factory refinement. What I mean is....I would prefer not to feel like I'm back in my early 20's with an external wastegate/dump tube....can get a bit obnoxious.

Before I ordered the dump tubes about 2 mos. ago. I asked Mat about install difficulty and he said it was easy and could be done with simple hand tools and no lift

Totally agree. I've been down the rabbit hole with a massive EWG and dump, and catless straight pipe and before that, back and forth with the installing/uninstalling parts before I committed to paying a guy to pass me each year come inspection time......I got over it.

sounds like an easy job, so if you really wanted/needed to and had to pass emissions, it may be worth an annual 2 hour (total) job to revert to stock components...

Pfft! Twice this week I was in the flow of shitty commute traffic around here (50min to go 15mi on Wed morning and 1hr to go 5mi yesterday). My left leg was happy as a clam.

1st gear is a great little crawler. The coming 2Lo Mod (2LM) is gonna rock that even more:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2lo-plug-play-harness-discussion.592035/

My normal commute these days is against the grain where it is either cruise control in the Taco or Rocket League on the bike.

Do you have a picture of the dump tubes installed?
We don’t need to replace the exhaust manifold or need any gaskets?

Anyone that complains about driving a MT in traffic, needs to get better at driving. I’d been in rush hour in Chicago, KC and others and it’s never once bothered me anymore with a manual aside from the fact I hate traffic in general.

    Exactly.

I like an MT for another reason also. Sitting there in neutral, then creeping away smoothly while watching the dolt behind me continue to catch up on IG while the gap increases.
